सुखसंतानपीयूष ह्रदे परिनिमज्य वै
Having plunged into the lake of nectar-like happiness and continuity,
किंकुलीयः स नो वेद्मि किंदेशीयः किमाख्यकः 4.2.67.
I do not know—who is he, of what land, and what is his name?
अनल्पोत्कलितं चेतः पुनस्तत्संगमाशया
My heart, greatly agitated, again longs for union with him.
वयस्या निशिभुक्तस्य तस्यैव पुनरीक्षणम्
The friends, who had spent the night with him, again gazed at him.
काऽलीकमालयो वक्ति स्निग्धमुग्धेसखीजने
Kālikā Mālaya speaks sweetly among the gentle, innocent friends.
दशम्यवस्था सन्नह्येद्बाधितुं माधुना भृशम्
The tenth stage should be carefully restrained, for love torments greatly.
प्रवेपमानहृदयाः प्रोचुर्वीक्ष्य परस्परम्
With trembling hearts, they spoke, looking at one another.
स कथं प्राप्यते भद्रे क उपायो विधीयताम्
How can he be attained, dear one? Let some means be devised.
इति रत्नावली श्रुत्वा ससंदेहां च तद्गिरम्
Hearing the words of Ratnāvalī, and her uncertainty,
इत्यर्धोक्तेन सा बाला यूयं कुंठितशक्तयः
Thus, with these half-spoken words, she said, 'You all are powerless.'
ततस्तास्त्वरिताः सख्यः परितापोपहारकान्
Then those friends, quickly, brought remedies for her distress.
व्यपैति न यदा मूर्छा तत्तच्छीतोपचारतः 4.2.67.
When the fainting did not subside with those cooling treatments,
तदुक्षणात्क्षणादेव तन्मूर्छा विरराम ह
From that sprinkling, in just a moment, her fainting ceased.
श्रद्धावतां स्वभक्तानामुपसर्गे महत्यपि
Even in great affliction, for those devoted with faith,
ये व्याधयोपि दुःसाध्या बहिरंतः शरीरगाः
Even those diseases, difficult to cure, that arise both externally and internally within the body,
सेवितं येन सततं भगवच्चरणोदकम्
by whomsoever the water from the feet of the Blessed One is constantly served,
आधिभौतिकतापं च तापं वाप्याधिदैविकम्
the suffering caused by material afflictions, or even the pain arising from divine sources,
व्यपेतसंज्वरा चाथ गंधर्वतनया मुने
are dispelled, O sage, and likewise the fever of the Gandharva maidens.
यूयं कुंठितसामर्थ्याः कुतो वस्ताः कलाः क्व वा
You, whose power is diminished—where are your abilities, and where are your arts?
मत्प्रियप्राप्तये सम्यगुपायोऽस्ति मयेक्षितः
For attaining my favor, there is a proper means which I have indicated.
शशिलेखेभिलषितप्राप्त्यै लेखांस्त्वमालिख
For the attainment desired by the moon’s rays, you should inscribe the marks.
चित्रगे चित्रलेखे त्वं पातालतलशायिनः 4.2.67.
O Citralekha, among the paintings, you are the one who lies in the realm of the underworld.
अथाकण्येति ताः सख्यस्तच्चातुर्यं प्रवर्ण्य च
Then, Akanya and her companions, having described that cleverness,
निर्यत्कौमारलक्ष्मीकान्पुंवत्त्व श्रीसमावृतान्
those who had shed the marks of maidenhood and were adorned with the splendor of manhood,
सर्वान्सुरनिकायान्सा व्यलोकत शुभेक्षणा
she, with auspicious gaze, observed all the groups of gods.
ततो मध्यमलोकस्थान्मुनिराजकुमारकान्
Then, those princes and sages dwelling in the middle world,
अथ रत्नावली बाला कर्णाभ्यर्णविलोचना
And Ratnavali, the young maiden, with eyes near her ears,
दितिजान्दनुजान्वीक्ष्य सा गंधर्वी कुमारकान्
having seen the sons of Diti and the Danavas, that Gandharva maiden,
सुधाकर करस्पृष्टाप्यतिदूनांगयष्टिका
Even when touched by the hand of Sudhakara, her slender form was exceedingly frail.
भोगिनस्तान्विलोक्यापि चित्रंचित्रगतानथ
Having observed those serpents, and also those who were in the realm of paintings,
