जातूकर्णेश्वरं लिंगं जंबूकेश्वरमेव च
The Jātūkarṇeśvara linga and the Jaṃbūkeśvara linga are also there.
एवमादीनि लिंगानि अयुतार्धानि कुंभज 4.2.65.
In this way, Kumbhaja, there are ten thousand and five hundred such lingas.
न जातु जायते जंतोः कलुषस्य समुद्भवः
Never does impurity arise at the birth of a living being.
तदहं ते प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणुष्वाघविनाशनम्
Therefore, I shall tell you that which destroys sin—listen.
स्वैरं विहरतस्तत्र ज्येष्ठस्थाने महेशितुः
There, as she wandered freely in the foremost place of the great Lord,
उदंच न्न्यंचदंगानां लाघवं परितन्वती
She moved gracefully, displaying the lightness of her limbs.
भ्रश्यद्ध म्मिल्लसन्माल्य स्थपुटीकृत भूमिका
Her loosened garland swayed, and she made the ground her stage.
स्फुटच्चोलांशुकपथनिर्यदंगप्रभावृता
Her shining garment slipped, revealing the radiance of her body.
कंदुकानुग सदृष्टि नर्तित भ्रूचलतांचला
Her glance followed the ball, her brows danced as she played.
अंतरिक्षचराभ्यां च दितिजाभ्यां मनोहरा
Enchanting, she was accompanied by two Daityas who moved through the sky.
विदलोत्पल संज्ञाभ्यां दृप्ताभ्यां वरतो विधेः
Proud, bearing the names of Split-Lotus, they were chosen by fate.
देवीं परिजिहीर्षू तौ विषमेषु प्रपीडितौ 4.2.65.
Those two, desiring to seize the goddess, were afflicted in difficult ways.
धृत्वा पारषदीं मूर्तिमायातावंबिकांतिकम्
Assuming the form of attendants, they approached near Ambika.
सर्वज्ञेन परिज्ञातौ चांचल्याल्लोचनोद्भवात्
The all-knowing one recognized them by the restlessness born of their eyes.
तेनैव कंदुकेनाथ युगपन्निजघान तौ
Then, with that very ball, she struck them both at once.
महाबलौ महादेव्या कंदुकेन समाहतौ
Those two mighty ones were felled by the ball of the great goddess.
वृंतादिव फले पक्वे तालादनिललोलिते
Like ripe fruit from a cluster of palm trees tossed by the wind,
तौ निपात्य महादैत्यावकार्यकरणोद्यतौ
Having cast down those great demons, she prepared to drive them away.
कंदुकेश्वरसंज्ञं च तल्लिंगमभवत्तदा
Then, that emblem became known as Kaṃdukeśvara.
कंदुकेश समुत्पत्तिं यः श्रोष्यति मुदान्वितः
Whoever hears with joy the origin of Kaṃdukeśa—
कंदुकेश्वर भक्तानां मानवानां निरेनसाम्
O Kaṃdukeśvara, among the devotees and among men, there is no fatigue.
मृडानी तस्य लिंगस्य पूजां कुर्यात्सदैव हि 4.2.65.
Mṛḍānī should always perform worship of his liṅga, indeed.
कंदुकेशं महालिंगं काश्यां यैर्न समर्चितम्
Those who have not worshipped Kaṃdukeśa, the great liṅga in Kāśī—
द्रष्टव्यं च प्रयत्नेन तल्लिंगं कंदुकेश्वरम्
That liṅga of Kaṃdukeśvara must be seen with effort.
कंदुकेश्वर नामापि श्रुत्वा वृजिनसंततिः
Even hearing the name Kaṃdukeśvara removes a lineage of sin.
यद्वृत्तांतमभूद्विप्र परमाश्चर्यकृद्ध्रुवम्
Whatever happened, O brāhmaṇa, was indeed most wondrous.
दंडखाते महातीर्थे देवर्षिपितृतृप्तिदे
At Daṃḍakhāta, the great tīrtha, which satisfies gods, sages, and ancestors—
दैत्यो दुंदुभिनिर्ह्रादो दुष्टः प्रह्लादमातुलः
There was the wicked demon Duṃdubhinirhrāda, uncle of Prahlāda.
किं बलाश्च किमाहाराः किमाधारा हि देवताः
What is their strength, what is their food, what is their support, O gods?
अवश्यमग्रजन्मानो हेतवोत्र विचारतः
Certainly, the cause of birth must be examined here.
