ततो रुद्रपिशाचास्ते भैरवानुचराः सदा
Then the Rudra-spirits, ever the followers of Bhairava,
आहारं रुधिरोन्मिश्रं ते लभंते कदाचन
They sometimes obtain food mixed with blood.
श्मशानस्तंभमभितो नीयंते कंठपाशिताः
They are led, bound by the neck, near the post in the cremation ground.
अथ संक्षीणपापास्ते कालभैरवदर्शनात्
Then, when their sins are exhausted, by the sight of Kālabhairava,
तस्मान्न कामयेतात्र वाङ्मनःकर्मणाप्यघह(?)म्
Therefore, one should not desire sin here, by speech, mind, or deed.
नाविमुक्ते मृतः कश्चिन्नरकं याति किल्बिषी
No sinner who dies in Avimukta goes to hell.
अनाशनं यः कुरुते मद्भक्त इह सुव्रतः
He who practices fasting here, devoted to me and steadfast in vows,
अशाश्वतमिदं ज्ञात्वा मानुष्यं बहुकिल्विषम्
Knowing this human life to be impermanent and full of many sins,
नान्यत्पश्यामि जंतूनां मुक्त्वा वाराणसीं पुरीम् 4.2.64.
I see no other city among living beings except Varanasi,
जन्मांतरसहस्रेषु यत्पापं समुपार्जितम्
The sin accumulated over thousands of lifetimes,
जन्मांतरसहस्रेषु युंजन्योगी यदाप्नुयात्
Whatever the yogi attains over thousands of lifetimes,
तिर्यग्योनिगताः सत्त्वा ये विमुक्तकृतालयाः
Those beings who have entered animal wombs, whose abode is liberation,
अविमुक्तं न सेवंते ये मूढास्तमसावृताः
Those deluded, covered by darkness, do not serve Avimukta,
अविमुक्तं समासाद्य यो लिंगं स्थापयेत्सुधीः
He who, having reached Avimukta, establishes the linga with wisdom,
ग्रहनक्षत्रताराणां कालेन पतनं ध्रुवम्
The fall of planets, stars, and constellations is certain in time,
ब्रह्महत्यां नरः कृत्वा पश्चात्संयतमानसः
A man who has committed the killing of a Brahmin, later with a restrained mind,
स्त्रियः पतिव्रता याश्च मम भक्तिसमाहिताः
And those women who are devoted to their husbands, absorbed in devotion to me,
अत्रोत्क्रमणकालेहं स्वयमेव द्विजोत्तमाः
At the time of departure here, I myself, O best of twice-born,
मन्मना मम भक्तश्च मयि सर्वार्पितक्रियः 4.2.64.
With mind fixed on me, devoted to me, offering all actions to me,
महादानेन चान्यत्र यत्फलं लभ्यते नरैः 4.2.64.
The fruit obtained by men elsewhere through great gifts,
तेपि साक्षाद्विरूपाक्षं प्रत्यक्षीकृत्य वाडवाः 4.2.64.
Even those horses, having made Virupaksha manifest directly,
श्रद्धालुः पातकैर्मुक्तः शिवलोके महीयते
The faithful, freed from sins, are honored in the world of Shiva,
तानि पंचसहस्राणि मुनीनां सिद्धिदान्यलम्
Those five thousand are fully capable of granting success to sages,
पराशरेश्वरं लिंगं ज्येष्ठेशादुत्तरे महत्
The linga of Parashara's Lord, great and north of Jyestha's Lord,
तत्रैव सिद्धिदं लिंगं मांडव्येश्वरसंज्ञितम्
There, the Siddhi-bestowing linga named Māṇḍavyeśvara is present.
लिंगं च शंकरेशाख्यं तत्रैव शुभदं सदा
Also there is the linga called Śaṃkareśa, always auspicious.
जाबालीश्वर संज्ञं च लिंगं तत्रातिसिद्धिदम्
The linga named Jābālīśvara is also there, granting supreme accomplishment.
सुमंतु मुनिना श्रेष्ठस्तत्रादित्यः प्रतिष्ठितः
The eminent sage Sumantu established the Sun there.
भैरेवी भीषणा नाम तत्र भीषणरूपिणी
There, Bhairavī called Bhīṣaṇā appears in a terrifying form.
तत्रोपजंघने लिंगं कर्मबंधविमोक्षणम्
There, in Upajaṃghana, is the linga that releases from the bonds of karma.
