The yoga scripture, which leads to liberation, has been given to you by me.
The secret of yogic knowledge, just as it is, O ascetic, has been imparted to you.
Just as a river, just as a bee, so too is the delight of Soma.
There are many vows, and observances exist in various forms.
Elsewhere are means for attaining the highest good, and certainly for destroying sin.
But this is the supreme observance: to partake of food after beholding me.
He who eats without worshipping me, even with leaves, flowers, or fruits—
Of this great observance, when practiced by you—
Therefore, you shall always dwell near my feet.
In Kāśī there is a liṅga called Jaigīṣavyeśvara, very difficult to obtain.
Having reached the cave of Jaigīṣavya, devoted to the constant practice of yoga—
This liṅga of yours is to be worshipped by devotees with great care.
Here, in the field of Jyeṣṭheśvara, your liṅga grants all accomplishments.
In this field of Jyeṣṭheśvara, the yogins devoted to Śiva shall partake of food.
The Jaigīṣavyeśvara liṅga should be carefully concealed here.
I shall manifest my presence here, in this liṅga, O ascetic.
Listen, O greatly fortunate one, I grant you the boon concerning the Jaigīṣavya observance.
It dispels the mass of great sins and greatly increases merit.
Thus, having granted him the boon, Smarāri, with smiling eyes, spoke.
A mortal becomes free from sin and is not afflicted by calamities.
O Six-faced One, what did the earthly deities say upon seeing Śaṃbhu?
At the most eminent and supremely holy place, beloved of the Lord of gods,
When the Lord went to Mount Mandara out of reverence for Brahma,
Then the Brahmins, without refuge, renounced the field and were pure.
They dug and dug the earth with the tips of their staffs, living on roots and similar fare.
They established many great liṅgas all around that sacred place.
Always bearing sacred ash and ever wearing rudrākṣa beads,
Having heard of the Lord of gods' return, those sages,
Five thousand twice-born ones practiced intense austerity.
From the tīrtha named Maṇḍākinī, the twice-born ones, observing the Pāśupata vow,
