परात्पराय पाराय परापरपराय च
To the One who is beyond the highest, the ultimate refuge, and who is both the transcendent and the immanent—
वामदेवाय वामार्धधारिणे वृषगामिने
To Vāmadeva, who bears the left half as feminine, who rides the bull—
भवाय भवनाशाय भूतानांपतये नमः
To Bhava, the source of existence, the destroyer of becoming, the Lord of beings, I bow.
नमो मृडानीपतये नमो मृत्युंजयाय ते
Salutations to the Lord of Mṛḍānī, salutations to you, the Conqueror of Death.
यायजूकाय यज्ञाय यज्ञानां फलदायिने
To the one who is to be worshipped, who is the sacrifice, the giver of the fruits of sacrifices—
शूलिने शाश्वतेशाय श्मशानावनिचारिणे
To the wielder of the trident, the eternal Lord, the wanderer in the cremation grounds—
हराय क्षांतिरूपाय क्षेत्रज्ञाय क्षमाकर
To Hara, the embodiment of forbearance, the knower of the field, the source of forgiveness—
अंधकारे नमस्तुभ्यमाद्यंतरहिताय च
Salutations to you, O darkness, who is free from beginning and end.
उमाकांताय उग्राय नमस्ते ऊर्ध्वरेतसे
To the beloved of Umā, the fierce one, salutations to you, whose seed is held upward.
अनंतकारिणे तुभ्यमंबिकापतये नमः 4.2.63.
To you who perform endless deeds, salutations to the Lord of Ambikā.
दृश्यादृश्य यदत्रास्ति तत्सर्वं त्वमु माधव
Whatever is seen or unseen here, all that is you, O Mādhava.
वाच्यस्त्वं वाचकस्त्वं हि वाक्च त्वं प्रणतोस्मि ते
You are the one to be spoken of, you are the speaker, and you are speech itself; I bow to you.
नान्यं नमामि गौरीश नान्याख्यामाददे शिव
I bow to no other, O Lord of Gaurī; I take up no other name, O Śiva.
पंगुरन्याभिगमनेऽस्म्यंधोऽन्यपरिवीक्षणे
I am lame in approaching others, blind in seeing anyone else.
पाता हर्ता त्वमेवैको नानात्वं मूढकल्पना
You alone are the protector and destroyer; the notion of multiplicity is the delusion of the ignorant.
संसारसागरे मग्नं मामुद्धर महेश्वर
Lift me up, O Great Lord, who am sunk in the ocean of worldly existence.
वाचंयमो भवत्स्थाणोः पुरतः स्थाणुसन्निभः उवाच च प्रसन्नात्मा वरं ब्रूहीति तं मुनिम्
Then, the steadfast Lord, resembling a pillar, standing before him, spoke with a gracious heart to the sage: 'Ask for a boon.'
मा भवानि भवानीश दूरं दूरपदप्रद
O Lord of Bhavānī, do not grant me a distant, far-off state.
अपरश्च वरो नाथ देयोयमविचारतः
And another boon, O Lord, is to be granted without hesitation.
तदस्तु सर्वं तेभीष्टं वरमन्यं ददामि च ।। 4.2.63.
So let all that you desire be fulfilled; I grant you another boon as well.
योगशास्त्रं मया दत्तं तव निर्वाणसाधकम्
The yoga scripture, which leads to liberation, has been given to you by me.
रहस्यं योगविद्याया यथावत्त्वं तपोधन
The secret of yogic knowledge, just as it is, O ascetic, has been imparted to you.
यथा नदी यथा भृंगी सोमनंदी यथा तथा
Just as a river, just as a bee, so too is the delight of Soma.
संति व्रतानि भूयांसि नियमाः संत्यनेकधा
There are many vows, and observances exist in various forms.
श्रेयसां साधनान्यत्र पापघ्नान्यपि सर्वथा
Elsewhere are means for attaining the highest good, and certainly for destroying sin.
परो हि नियमश्चैष मां विलोक्य यदश्यते
But this is the supreme observance: to partake of food after beholding me.
असमर्च्य च यो भुङ्क्ते पत्रपुष्पफलैरपि
He who eats without worshipping me, even with leaves, flowers, or fruits—
महतो नियमस्यास्य भवतानुष्ठितस्य वै
Of this great observance, when practiced by you—
अतो मच्चरणाभ्याशे त्वं निवत्स्यसि सर्वथा
Therefore, you shall always dwell near my feet.
जैगीषव्येश्वरं नाम लिंगं काश्यां सुदुर्लभम् 4.2.63.
In Kāśī there is a liṅga called Jaigīṣavyeśvara, very difficult to obtain.
