पुराणश्रवणं चैव तदर्थाचरणं पुनः
Listening to the Purāṇas and acting accordingly,
प्रभूतांकुरबीजाढ्ये देशे चापि गतागतम्
And coming and going in a land rich with abundant sprouting seeds,
असंभाष्या न संभाष्याश्चातुर्मास्य व्रतस्थितैः
One should neither speak to nor be spoken to by those observing the Caturmasya vow.
निष्पावांश्च मसूरांश्च कोद्रवान्वर्जयेद्व्रती
The vow-holder should avoid peas, lentils, and kodrava grains.
दंतकेशांबरादीनि नित्यं शोध्यानि यत्नतः
Items such as toothsticks, hair, and garments must always be purified with care.
द्वादशस्वपि मासेषु व्रतिनो यत्फलं भवेत्
Whatever fruit accrues to the vow-holder in all twelve months,
चतुर्ष्वपि च मासेषु न सामर्थ्यं व्रते यदि
If there is no ability to observe the vow in any of the four months,
अव्रतः कार्तिको येषां गतो मूढधियामिह
For those whose Kartika vow is lost here due to deluded minds,
कृच्छ्रं वा चातिकृच्छ्रं वा प्राजापत्यमथापि वा 4.2.60.
One should undertake the Kṛcchra, Atikṛcchra, or Prajapatya expiation.
एकांतरं व्रतं कुर्यात्त्रिरात्र व्रतमेव वा
One may perform the vow on alternate days, or the three-night vow.
पक्षव्रतं वा कुर्वीत मासोपोषणमेव वा
Or one may observe the fortnight vow, or the monthly fasting.
शाकाहारं पयोहारं फलाहारमथापि वा
One may subsist on vegetables, milk, or fruits.
नित्यनैमित्तिकं स्नानं कुर्यादूर्जे व्रती नरः
A man observing the Urja vow should perform daily and occasional bathing.
बाहुलं ब्रह्मचर्येण यः क्षिपेच्छुचिमानसः
He who spends the full period in celibacy, with a pure mind,
यस्तु कार्तिकिकं मासमुपवासैः समापयेत्
Who completes the Kartika month with fasting,
शाकाहारपयोहारैरूर्जों यैरतिवाहितः
Those who uphold Urja with vegetable diet and milk diet,
पत्रभोजी भवेदूर्जे कांस्यं त्याज्यं प्रयत्नतः
During Urja, one should eat leaves and carefully avoid bronze vessels.
कांस्यस्य नियमे दद्यात्कांस्यं सर्पिः प्रपूरितम्
When restricting bronze, one should give bronze vessels filled with ghee.
मधुत्यागे घृतं दद्यात्पायसं च सशर्करम् 4.2.60.
When renouncing honey, one should give ghee and sweetened rice pudding.
पापांधकारसंक्रुद्धः कार्तिके दीपदानतः 4.2.60.
One who is afflicted by the darkness of sin is freed by offering lamps in Kartika.
एकादशीं समासाद्य प्रबोधकरणीं मम 4.2.60.
Upon the arrival of the Ekadashi that awakens consciousness for me—
तस्माद्द्वेषो न कर्तव्यो विश्वेशे परमात्मनि 4.2.60.
Therefore, one should not harbor hatred toward the Lord of the universe, the Supreme Self.
आनंदकाननं पुण्यं पुण्यं पांचनदं ततः 4.2.60.
Then comes the sacred forest of bliss, and the holy land of the Five Rivers.
भविष्याण्यपि कानीह तानि मे कथयाच्युत
O Achyuta, tell me also of those future places here.
महिमापि श्रुतः श्रेयान्सम्यक्पंचनदस्य वै
The greatness of the Five Rivers has been heard, and it is truly superior.
यदग्निबिंदुना पृच्छि माधवो दैत्यसूदनः
That which you, Madhava, destroyer of demons, ask of me concerning the fire-drop—
माधवेन यथाचक्षि मुनये चाग्निबिंदवे
As Madhava spoke to the sage, so I declare to Agnibindu.
आदौ पादोदके तीर्थे विद्धि मामादिकेशवम्
At first, in the sacred place of the water from the feet, know me as Adi-Keshava.
अविमुक्तेऽमृते क्षेत्रे येर्चयंत्यादिकेशवम्
In the field of Avimukta, the immortal, those who worship Adi-Keshava—
संगमेशं महालिंगं प्रतिष्ठाप्यादिकेशवः
Adi-Keshava established the great linga of Sangamesha there.
