And he, with a tranquil mind, said: 'O pure one, you are indeed pure, without doubt.'
A woman is of the nature of fire, and a man is like fresh butter.
Even butter that has had its essence removed, upon contact with fire, will still melt.
Therefore, O pure-minded one, you need not be afraid, for your mind remains pure.
From an unintentional lapse, there is not such loss of ascetic merit for a sage who is without desire.
But from anger, the ascetic merit that has been accumulated with great difficulty is destroyed.
When the mind is consumed by resentment, how can the creation of mental resolve arise?
Where is the place for the tree of tranquility in the blazing wildfire of wrath?
Therefore, by every effort, one must oppose and restrain anger.
Now, O auspicious one, listen to what you must do, O pure one.
When this energy is preserved, and purified by your gaze,
Thus addressed by that sage, she, the Apsaras, seemed as if reborn.
Then, in due course, that divine woman gave birth to a jewel among maidens.
She placed her in the very hermitage of Vedashiras.
And Vedashiras raised that girl with affection.
The sage gave her the meaningful name Dhūtapāpā, 'She whose sins are washed away.'
Endowed with all auspicious marks, and beautiful in every limb,
Seeing her grow day by day, he rejoiced greatly.
Then, seeing that maiden at the age of eight, the great sage—
To whom should I give you, O excellent one? You yourself tell me your chosen husband.
This was spoken by her father, whose heart was softened by deep affection.
At that time, give her to the one whom I shall tell you.
And if this pleases you, dear one, listen attentively: He who never perishes, who always acts righteously—
He who protects both here and hereafter from the arising of great dangers, surely—
In whose presence, day by day, good fortune increases—
By merely uttering whose name, no one causes any harm—
Such are the foremost qualities of the husband whose conduct is excellent.
Even upon hearing this, she felt great joy.
Surely, she is purified of sin whose mind is thus disposed.
Otherwise, how could such a one be attained without the rise of abundant merit?
