ततः कैटभजित्प्राह वैनतेयं मुदान्वितः 4.1.50.
Then, having conquered Kaitabha, he spoke joyfully to Vainateya.
इत्युक्त्वा सहितो मात्रा वैनतेयो विनिर्ययौ 4.1.50.
Having said this, Vainateya departed together with his mother.
विश्वेशानुगृहीतानां विच्छिन्नाखिलकर्मणाम् 4.1.50.
Of those who are favored by the Lord of the Universe, all their actions are severed.
काश्यां प्रसन्नौ संजातौ देवौ शंकरभास्करौ 4.1.50.
In Kāśī, the gods Śaṃkara and Bhāskara were born, radiant and gracious.
तस्य दर्शनमात्रेण सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते नरश्चिंतितमाप्नोति नीरोगो जायते क्षणात् ।। 4.1.50.
By merely seeing him, a man is freed from all sins, attains what he desires, and becomes healthy in an instant.
नरः श्रुत्वैतदाख्यानं खखोल्कादित्यसंभवम्
A man who hears this account, originating from the bird, the meteor, and the sun—
श्रीगणेशाय नमः अगस्तिरुवाच पार्वती हृदयानंद सर्वज्ञांगभव प्रभो
Salutations to Shri Ganesha. Agastya spoke: O Lord, source of Parvati’s heart’s joy, embodiment of omniscience.
दक्ष प्रजापतेः पुत्री कश्यपस्य परिग्रहः
Daksha Prajapati’s daughter became the wife of Kashyapa.
तदप्यहं समाख्यामि निशामय महामते
I shall recount this as well; listen, O wise one.
कद्रूरजीजनत्पुत्राञ्शतं कश्यपतः पुरा
Kadru once gave birth to a hundred sons for Kashyapa.
कौशिको राज्यमाप्यापि श्रेष्ठत्वात्पक्षिणां मुने
Koushika, having attained sovereignty, was foremost among the birds, O sage.
क्रूराक्षोयं दिवांधोयं सदा वक्रनखस्त्वसौ
He is fierce-eyed, blind by day, and always has crooked claws.
इत्थं तस्य गुणग्रामान्विकथ्य बहुशः खगाः
Thus, having repeatedly described his multitude of virtues, the birds—
कौशिकेथ तथावृत्ते पुत्रवीक्षणलालसा
Koushika, in such circumstances, was eager to behold his sons.
पूर्णे वर्षसहस्रे तु प्रस्फोट्य घटसंभव
When a thousand years had passed, the egg burst forth.
तावत्सर्वाणि गात्राणि तस्यातिमहसः शिशोः 4.2.51.
Then, all the limbs of that exceedingly powerful child appeared.
अंडान्निर्गतमात्रेण क्रोधारुणमुखश्रिया
As soon as he emerged from the egg, his face shone with wrathful redness.
जनयित्रि त्वया दृष्ट्वा काद्रवेयान्स्वलीलया
Seeing the Kadru-born with your own playful act, O mother—
तदनिष्पन्न सर्वांगः शपामि त्वा विहंगमे
Since he is incomplete in all his limbs, I curse you, O bird.
वेपमानाथ तच्छापादिदं प्रोवाच पक्षिणी
Trembling from that curse, the bird spoke thus.
अंडं तृतीयं मा भिंधि ह्यनिष्पन्नं ममेव हि
Do not break the third egg; it is not yet fully formed, it is mine alone.
इत्युक्त्वा सोरुणोगच्छदुड्डीयानंदकाननम्
Having said this, she departed in sorrow to the forest of joy.
एतत्ते पृच्छतः ख्यातं विनता दास्यकारणम्
This, which you have asked, is the well-known reason for Vinata’s servitude.
अनूरुत्वादनूरुर्योरुणः क्रोधारुणो यतः
Because of the wrathful redness, he is called Anuru, and Anuru is his name.
सोपि प्रसन्नो दत्त्वाथ वरांस्तस्मा अनूरवे
He too, being pleased, then granted boons to Anūru.
तिष्ठानूरो मम रथे सदैव विनतात्मज 4.2.51.
Remain, O Anūru, always on my chariot, O son of Vinatā.
अत्र त्वत्स्थापितां मूर्तिं ये भजिष्यंति मानवाः
Those people who worship the image established by you here,
येर्चयिष्यंति सततमरुणादित्यसंज्ञकम्
and those who constantly honor the one called Aruṇāditya,
व्याधिभिर्नाभिभूयंते नो पसर्गैश्च कैश्चन
they are not overcome by diseases nor by any calamities.
अथ स्यंदनमारोप्य नीतवानरुणं रविः
Then, having placed Aruṇa on the chariot, Ravi led him away.
