प्रवेश्य कंठतालुस्थं तं विज्ञाय द्विजस्फुटम्
Recognizing the Brāhmaṇa clearly, who was lodged at the root of his throat,
तमुद्गीर्णं नरं दृष्ट्वा पक्षिराट्समभाषत
Seeing that man expelled, the king of birds spoke.
स तदाहेति विप्रोहं पृष्टः सन्गरुडाग्रतः
He said, 'I am a Brāhmaṇa,' when questioned before Garuḍa.
तं प्रेष्य गरुडो दूरं भक्षयित्वाथ भूरिशः
After sending him far away, Garuḍa then devoured many others.
तं दृष्ट्वा तिग्मतेजस्कं ज्वालाततदिगंतरम्
Seeing him, whose energy was fierce, whose flames reached the directions—
ते सन्नह्यंत युद्धाय सज्जीकृत बलायुधाः
They prepared themselves for battle, readying their forces and weapons.
तिर्यग्गतीरविर्नायं नायमग्निः सधूमवान्
This is not the fire that moves sideways, nor is it smoky.
न दैत्येषु प्रभेदृक्स्यान्नाकृतिर्दानवेष्वियम्
No such splitting fire is found among the Daityas, nor is this form among the Dānavas.
यावत्संभावयंतीति नीतिज्ञा अपि निर्जराः
As long as they maintain themselves, even those skilled in policy remain undying.
निपेतुः पक्षवातेन सायुधाश्च सवाहनाः 4.1.50.
They fell by the force of the wind from the wings, together with their weapons and vehicles.
अथ तेषु प्रणष्टेषु बुद्ध्या विज्ञाय पक्षिराट्
Then, when they had perished, the king of birds understood this by his intellect.
शस्त्रास्त्रोद्यतपाणींस्तान्सुरानाधूय सर्वशः
He shook off all the gods who had raised their hands with weapons and missiles.
मनःपवनवेगेन भ्रममाणं महारयम्
With the speed of the wind of his mind, he caused the great enemy to whirl.
उपोपविश्य पक्षींद्रस्तस्य यंत्रस्य निर्भयः
The king of birds, fearless, sat beside that machine.
स्प्रष्टुं न लभ्यते चैतद्वात्या न प्रभवेदिह
This cannot be touched, nor can the wind prevail here.
न बलं प्रभवेदत्र न किंचिदपि पौरुषम्
Neither strength nor any effort can prevail here.
यदि मे शंकरे भक्तिर्निर्द्वंद्वातीव निश्चला
If my devotion to Śaṃkara is truly unwavering and free from duality,
यद्यहं मातृभक्तोस्मि स्वामिनः शंकरादपि
If I am devoted to my mother, even more than to my master Śaṃkara,
आत्मार्थं नोद्यमश्चायं हृत्स्थो वेत्तीति विश्वगः
The omnipresent one knows that this effort is not for my own sake, but resides in my heart.
जरितौ पितरौ यस्य बालापत्यश्च यः पुमान् 4.1.50.
He whose aged parents and childhood are his own—such a man—
ततः कैटभजित्प्राह वैनतेयं मुदान्वितः 4.1.50.
Then, having conquered Kaitabha, he spoke joyfully to Vainateya.
इत्युक्त्वा सहितो मात्रा वैनतेयो विनिर्ययौ 4.1.50.
Having said this, Vainateya departed together with his mother.
विश्वेशानुगृहीतानां विच्छिन्नाखिलकर्मणाम् 4.1.50.
Of those who are favored by the Lord of the Universe, all their actions are severed.
काश्यां प्रसन्नौ संजातौ देवौ शंकरभास्करौ 4.1.50.
In Kāśī, the gods Śaṃkara and Bhāskara were born, radiant and gracious.
तस्य दर्शनमात्रेण सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते नरश्चिंतितमाप्नोति नीरोगो जायते क्षणात् ।। 4.1.50.
By merely seeing him, a man is freed from all sins, attains what he desires, and becomes healthy in an instant.
नरः श्रुत्वैतदाख्यानं खखोल्कादित्यसंभवम्
A man who hears this account, originating from the bird, the meteor, and the sun—
श्रीगणेशाय नमः अगस्तिरुवाच पार्वती हृदयानंद सर्वज्ञांगभव प्रभो
Salutations to Shri Ganesha. Agastya spoke: O Lord, source of Parvati’s heart’s joy, embodiment of omniscience.
दक्ष प्रजापतेः पुत्री कश्यपस्य परिग्रहः
Daksha Prajapati’s daughter became the wife of Kashyapa.
तदप्यहं समाख्यामि निशामय महामते
I shall recount this as well; listen, O wise one.
कद्रूरजीजनत्पुत्राञ्शतं कश्यपतः पुरा
Kadru once gave birth to a hundred sons for Kashyapa.
