त्वया प्रतिष्ठितं लिंगं गभस्तीश्वरसंज्ञितम्
The liṅga established by you shall be known as Gabhastīśvara.
त्वया गभस्तिमालाभिश्चांपेयांबुजकांतिभिः
By you, with garlands of rays, shining with the radiance of yellow lotuses,
गभस्तीश्वर इत्याख्यां ततो लिंगमवाप्स्यति
Therefore, that liṅga will receive the name Gabhastīśvara.
न जातु जायते मातुर्जठरे धूतकल्मषः 4.1.49.
One whose sins are washed away is never born in the womb of a mother.
चैत्रशुक्लतृतीयायामुपोषणपरायणः
On the third day of the bright half of Caitra, being devoted to fasting,
रात्रौ जागरणं कृत्वा गीतनृत्यकथादिभिः
Staying awake at night, with singing, dancing, storytelling, and the like,
संभोज्यपरमान्नाद्यैर्दत्त्वान्येभ्योपि दक्षिणाम्
After offering sumptuous food and the best dishes, and giving gifts to others as well,
अष्टोत्तरशताभिश्च तिलाज्याहुतिभिः प्रगे
And in the morning, with one hundred and eight oblations of sesame and ghee,
श्रद्धया समलंकृत्य भूषणैर्द्विजदंपती
With faith, adorning a pair of Brāhmaṇas with ornaments,
इति मंत्रं समुच्चार्य प्रातः कृत्वाथ पारणम्
Reciting this mantra, and then breaking the fast in the morning,
न वै संतानविच्छित्तिं भोगोच्छित्तिं न जातुचित्
There will never be interruption of lineage nor loss of enjoyment.
पापानि विलयं यांति पुण्यराशिश्च लभ्यते
Sins are destroyed, and a heap of merit is obtained.
एतद्व्रतस्य करणात्कुरूपत्वं न जातुचित्
By performing this vow, one never becomes deformed.
कुमारोपि व्रतं कृत्वा विंदति स्त्रियमुत्तमाम् 4.1.49.
Even a youth, by observing the vow, attains an excellent wife.
नाप्नुयुर्जातुचित्तानि मंगलाव्रततुल्यताम्
The minds of people never attain equality with the auspicious vow.
सर्वविघ्नप्रशांत्यर्थं सदा काशीनिवासिभिः
For the removal of all obstacles, it is always observed by the residents of Kāśī.
मयूखा एव खे दृष्टा न च दृष्टं कलेवरम्
Only rays were seen in the sky, but no body was seen.
त्वदर्चनान्नृणां कश्चिन्न व्याधिः प्रभविष्यति
From your worship, no disease shall ever afflict people.
इत्थं मयूखादित्यस्य शिवो दत्त्वा बहून्वरान्
Thus, Shiva granted many boons to Mayukhaditya.
श्रुत्वाख्यानमिदं पुण्यं मयूखादित्यसंश्रयम्
Hearing this sacred account, which is connected to Mayukhaditya, brings merit.
कलशोद्भव ते प्रीत्या सर्वे सर्वाघनाशनाः
Born from the pot, all are, by your affection, destroyers of every sin.
खखोल्को नाम भगवानादित्य परिकीर्तितः
The revered Aditya is known by the name Khakholka.
यथा खखोल्क इत्याख्या तस्यादित्यस्य तच्छृणु
Hear now the reason why that Aditya is called Khakholka.
कश्यपस्य च ते पत्न्यौ मारीचेः प्राक्प्रजापतेः
The wives of Kashyapa and Marichi, who existed before Prajapati, are yours.
अखंडिता गतिस्तेस्ति यतो गगनमंडले
There is uninterrupted movement because of the celestial sphere.
योसावुच्चैःश्रवा वाजी श्रूयते सवितूरथे
That horse, Uccaiḥśravas, is heard to be yoked to Savita's chariot.
पणं च कुरु कल्याणि तुभ्यं यो रोचतेनघे
O auspicious one, make a wager for yourself, whichever pleases you, O sinless one.
त्वज्जये का च मे प्रीतिर्मज्जये किं नु ते सुखम्
What joy is there for me in your victory, and what happiness is there for you in mine?
ज्ञात्वा पणो न कर्तव्यो मिथः स्नेहमभीप्सता
Knowing this, one should not wager when mutual affection is desired.
कद्रूरुवाच खेलस्य व्यवहारोयं पणे यत्किंचिदुच्यते ।। 4.1.50.
Kadrū said: This is the rule of the game; whatever is spoken in the wager.
