संचयाः सर्ववस्तूनां चिरं तिष्ठति नो क्वचित्
The accumulations of all things do not last long anywhere.
धन्या सुलक्षणा चैषा योग्याऽनुग्रहकर्मणि
Blessed indeed is this Sulakṣaṇā, fit for the act of granting grace.
सुलक्षणा शुभाचारा सखी मेस्तु शुभोद्यमा
Sulakṣaṇā, of virtuous conduct, let her be my friend, intent on auspicious deeds.
यथा जया च विजया यथा चैव जयंतिका
Just as Jayā and Vijayā, and also Jayantikā,
यथा चंपकमाला च यथा मलयवासिनी
Just as Campakamālā, and as Malayavāsinī,
अशोका च विशोका च यथा मलयगंधिनी
As Aśokā and Viśokā, and as Malayagandhinī,
यथा च कोकिलालापा यथा मधुरभाषिणी
Just as the call of the cuckoo, just as one who speaks sweetly,
दृगंचलेंगितज्ञा च यथा कृतमनोरथा 4.1.47.
One who understands gestures of the eyes and brows, just as one whose desires have been fulfilled,
अतिप्रिया भवित्री मे यद्बाल ब्रह्मचारिणी
She will become exceedingly dear to me, O child, a maiden devoted to celibacy,
दिव्यांबरा दिव्यगंधा दिव्यज्ञानसमन्विता
Clad in divine garments, bearing divine fragrance, endowed with divine knowledge,
एषापि काशिराजस्य कुमार्यस्त्विह बर्करी
This too is a princess of the king of Kashi, here named Barkari,
अनया त्वर्ककुंडेस्मिन्पुष्ये मासि रवेर्दिने
With her, at this Arkakunda, in the month of Pushya, on a solar day,
राजपुत्री ततः पुण्यादस्त्वेषा शुभलोचना
The royal maiden, therefore, from this merit, will be she of auspicious eyes,
बर्करीकुंडमित्याख्या त्वर्ककुंडस्य जायताम्
Let this Arkakunda be known as Barkarikunda,
उत्तरार्कस्य देवस्य पुष्ये मासि रवेर्दिने
To the north of the deity Arka, in the month of Pushya, on a solar day,
मृडान्याभिहि तं सर्वं कृत्वैतद्विश्वगो विभुः
By the words of Mridani, the all-pervading Lord accomplished all this,
कथितं ते महाभाग सांबादित्यं निशामय
I have told you, O greatly fortunate one, listen to the account of Sambaditya,
श्रुत्वैतत्पुण्यमाख्यानं शुभं लोलोत्तरार्कयोः 4.1.47.
Having heard this auspicious and meritorious narrative of Lolat and Uttararka,
स्कंद उवाच शृणुष्व मैत्रावरुणे द्वारवत्यां यदूद्वहः
Skanda said: Hear, O Maitravaruni, what happened in Dvaravati, O best of the Yadus,
आविरासीत्स्वयं कृष्णः कृष्णवर्त्मप्रतापवान्
Krishna himself appeared, resplendent with the glory of Krishna's path,
साशीतिलक्षं तस्यासन्कुमारा अर्कवर्चसः
There were eighty thousand sons of his, shining with the radiance of the sun,
अतीवरूपसंपन्ना अतीव सुमहाबलाः
Endowed with extraordinary beauty, and possessing immense strength,
तांद्रष्टुं मानसः पुत्रो ब्रह्मणस्तपसांनिधिः । उरस्थलस्थ तुलसी मालया समलंकृतः
To see them came Manasa, the son of Brahma, a treasury of austerities, adorned with a garland of tulasi resting on his chest,
गोपीचंदननिर्यास लसदंगविलेपनः
His limbs anointed with the shining extract of gopicandana,
आजगामांबरचरो नारदो द्वारकापुरीम्
The sage Nārada, who moves through the sky, arrived at the city of Dvārakā.
तंदृष्ट्वा नारदं सर्वे विनम्रतरकंधराः
Seeing Nārada, all bowed their heads in deep respect.
सांबः स्वरूपसौंदर्य गर्वसर्वस्वमोहितः 4.1.48.
Sāmba, intoxicated with pride in his own beauty and charm, was completely deluded.
सांबस्य तमभिप्रायं विज्ञाय स महामुनिः
The great sage, perceiving Sāmba’s intention, understood his mind.
कृष्णोथ दृष्ट्वाऽऽगच्छंतं प्रत्युद्गम्य च नारदम्
Then Kṛṣṇa, seeing Nārada approaching, went out to meet him.
कृत्वा कथा विचित्रार्थास्तत एकांतवर्तिनः
After exchanging words of varied meaning, they withdrew to a secluded place.
