निजमूर्तिमयं लिंगमविज्ञातं विधेरपि
A liṅga made of his own form, unknown even to the Creator, was established.
विपन्नानां च जंतूनां दातुं नैःश्रेयसीं श्रियम्
To grant supreme prosperity to creatures who had fallen into misfortune.
मंदराद्रिगतेनापि क्षेत्रं नैतत्पिनाकिना
Even though Mandara mountain was approached, this field was not by Pinākin.
पुरा नंदवनं नाम क्षेत्रमेतत्प्रकीर्तितम्
Formerly, this field was called Nandavana.
नामाविमुक्तमभवदुभयोः क्षेत्रलिंगयोः
The name 'Avimukta' became established for both the field and the liṅga.
अविमुक्तेश्वरं लिंगं दृष्ट्वा क्षेत्रेऽविमुक्तके
Having seen the liṅga of Avimukteśvara in the field called Avimukta.
अर्चंति विश्वे विश्वेशं विश्वेशोर्चति विश्वकृत्
All the gods worship the Lord of all; the Lord of all is worshipped by all, the creator of all.
पुरा न स्थापितं लिंगं कस्यचित्केनचित्क्वचित्
In ancient times, no linga was established by anyone, anywhere.
आकारमविमुक्तस्य दृष्ट्वा ब्रह्माच्युतादयः
Seeing the form of the One who is never separated, Brahma, Vishnu, and others—
आदिलिंगमिदं प्रोक्तमविमुक्तेश्वरं महत् 4.1.39.
This is called the original linga, the great Lord of Avimukta.
अविमुक्तेश नामापि श्रुत्वा जन्मार्जितादघात्
Even hearing the name 'Avimuktesha' removes sins accumulated from birth.
अविमुक्तेश्वरं लिंगं स्मृत्वा दूरगतोपि च
Remembering the linga of Avimukteshvara, even from afar—
अविमुक्ते महाक्षेत्रेऽविमुक्तमवलोक्य च
In Avimukta, the great sacred place, seeing Avimukta—
यत्कृतं ज्ञानविभ्रंशादेनः पंचसु जन्मसु
Whatever sin was committed through loss of knowledge in five births—
अर्चयित्वा महालिंगमविमुक्तेश्वरं नरः
After worshipping the great linga, Avimukteshvara, a person—
स्तुत्वा नत्वार्चयित्वा च यथाशक्ति यथामति
Having praised, bowed, and worshipped according to one's ability and understanding—
अनादिमदिदं लिंगं स्वयं विश्वेश्वरार्चितम्
This beginningless linga is worshipped by the Lord of the universe himself.
संति लिंगान्यनेकानि पुण्येष्वायतनेषु च
There are many lingas in holy temples.
कृष्णायां माघभूतायामविमुक्तेश जागरात्
On the night of Krishna in the month of Magha, Avimuktesha is awake.
नानायतनलिंगानि चतुर्वर्गप्रदान्यपि 4.1.39.
The lingas in various temples also grant the four aims of life.
किं बिभेति नरो धीरः कृतादघशिलोच्चयात्
Why should a steadfast person fear, even after committing a heap of sins?
क्वाविमुक्तं महालिंगं चतुर्वर्गफलोदयम्
Where is Avimukta, the great linga, which brings forth the fruits of the four aims of life?
अविमुक्ते महाक्षेत्रे विश्वेशसमधिष्ठिते
In Avimukta, the great sacred place, presided over by the Lord of all—
द्रष्टारमविमुक्तस्य दृष्ट्वा दंडधरो यमः
Seeing the seer of Avimukta, Yama, the wielder of the staff—
धन्यं तन्नेत्रनिर्माणं कृतकृत्यौ तु तौ करौ
Blessed are those eyes that behold it; and those hands are truly fulfilled.
त्रिसंध्यमविमुक्तेशं यो जपेन्नियतः शुचिः
Whoever, disciplined and pure, recites the name of the Lord of Avimukta at the three junctions of the day—
अविमुक्तं महालिंगं दृष्ट्वा ग्रामांतरं व्रजेत्
—having seen the great liṅga at Avimukta, should then proceed to another village.
अथो किमसि शुश्रूषुः कथयिष्यामि तत्पुनः
Now then, since you wish to listen, I will tell you that again.
अतीव सुश्रुते जाते तथापि न धिनोम्यहम्
Though you have become extremely attentive, still I do not blame you.
अविमुक्तेश्वरं लिंगं क्षेत्रं चाप्यविमुक्तकम्
The liṅga of the Lord of Avimukta, and also the field called Avimukta—
