स्वर्गद्वाः स्वर्गभूरेषा मोक्षभूर्मणिकर्णिका
This Maṇikarṇikā is the gateway to heaven, the realm of heaven itself, and the realm of liberation.
दत्त्वा दानान्यनेकानि विगाह्य मणिकर्णिकाम्
Having given many gifts and entered Maṇikarṇikā,
स्वर्गापवर्गयोरर्थः कोविदैश्च निरूपितः
The wise have determined its purpose to be both for heaven and for liberation.
मणिकर्ण्युपविष्टस्य यत्सुखं जायते सतः
The happiness that arises for one who sits at Maṇikarṇikā,
महासुखं यदुद्दिष्टं समाधौ विस्मृतात्मनाम्
Is declared to be the supreme bliss, like that of those absorbed in meditation who have forgotten themselves.
स्वर्गद्वारात्पुरोभागे देवनद्याश्च पश्चिमे
In front of the gateway to heaven and to the west of the divine river,
यावंतो भास्वतः स्पर्शाद्भासंते सैकताः कणाः 4.1.34.
As many as the grains of sand that shine from the touch of the sun,
संति तीर्थानि तावंति परितो मणिकर्णिकाम्
So many are the sacred places surrounding Maṇikarṇikā.
यदन्वये कोपि मुक्तः संप्राप्य मणिकर्णिकाम्
If anyone in the lineage attains liberation by reaching Maṇikarṇikā,
तर्पिताः पितरो येन संप्राप्य मणिकर्णिकाम्
By whom the ancestors are satisfied upon reaching Maṇikarṇikā,
आमध्याद्देवसरित आ हरिश्चंद्रमडपात्
From the middle of the divine river up to the pavilion of Hariścandra,
एतद्रजःकणतुलां त्रिलोक्यपि न गच्छति
Even the three worlds do not equal the weight of a single dust particle from this place.
कलावती चित्रपटीं पश्यंतीत्थं मुहुर्मुहुः
Kalāvatī, seeing again and again the sacred place adorned with a colorful cloth,
यदंबुसततं रक्षेद्दुर्वृत्ताद्दंडनायकः
When the chief of punishment protects the water-filled place from the wicked,
योष्टमूर्तिर्महादेवः पुराणे परिपठ्यते
The eight-formed Great God is described in the Purāṇas.
नेत्रयोरतिथीकृत्य ज्ञानवापी कलावती
Kalāvatī, having honored the Jñānavāpī with her eyes,
अंगानि वेपथुं प्रापुः स्विन्ना भालस्थली भृशम् 4.1.34.
Her limbs began to tremble, her forehead was greatly covered in sweat.
तस्तंभ गात्रलतिका मुखवैवर्ण्यमाप च
The creepers of her body became stiff, and her face lost its color.
साक्षणं स्वं विसस्मार काहं क्वाहं न वेत्ति च
In that moment, she forgot herself entirely and did not know who or where she was.
अथ तत्परिचारिण्यस्त्वरमाणा इतस्ततः
Then her attendants hurried here and there with urgency.
तदवस्थां समालोक्य तां ताश्चतुरचेतसः
Observing her in that condition, those women became bewildered in mind.
भवांतरे प्रेमपात्रमेतयैक्षितु किंचन
They wondered if, in a previous life, she had been the object of someone's deep affection.
अथनेत्थं कथमियमकांडात्पर्यमूमुहत्
Then they questioned among themselves how she had come to be so stupefied by this event.
तन्मोहस्य निदानं ताःसम्यगेव विचार्य च
Carefully considering the true cause of her delusion, they deliberated together.
काचित्तां वीजयांचक्रे कदलीतालवृंतकैः
One of them began to fan her with banana and palm leaves.
अमंदैश्चंदनरसैरभ्यषिंचदमुं परा
Another anointed her with fragrant sandalwood pastes.
धारामंडपधारांबुसीकरैस्तत्तनूलताम् 4.1.34.
Yet another sprinkled her body with cool streams of water from a spouted vessel.
जलार्द्रवाससा काचिदेतस्यास्तनुमावृणोत्
One attendant covered her body with garments soaked in water.
पद्मिनीदलशय्या च काचित्यरचयन्मृदुम्
Another arranged a soft bed of lotus petals for her.
मुक्ताकलापं रचयांचक्रे वक्षोजमंडले
Someone fashioned a string of pearls to adorn her bosom.
