अष्टम्यां च चतुर्दश्यामुपवासी नरोत्तमः 4.1.33.
On the eighth and fourteenth days, the best among men should observe a fast.
एकादश्यामुपोष्यात्र प्राश्नाति चुलुकत्रयम्
Here, on the eleventh day, one should fast and then eat three handfuls of food.
ईशानतीर्थे यः स्नात्वा विशेषात्सोमवासरे
Whoever bathes at the Īśāna tīrtha, especially on a Monday,
ततः समर्च्य श्रीलिंगं महासंभारविस्तरैः
Then, having worshipped the auspicious liṅga with abundant offerings,
उपास्य संध्यां ज्ञानोदे यत्पापं काललोपजम् । क्षणेन तदपाकृत्य ज्ञानवाञ्जायते द्विजः
After meditating at twilight, whatever sin arises from neglecting time is removed in an instant, and the twice-born becomes wise.
शिवतीर्थमिदं प्रोक्तं ज्ञानतीर्थमिदं शुभम्
This is called the Śiva tīrtha; this auspicious place is the tīrtha of knowledge.
स्मरणादपि पापौघो ज्ञानोदस्य क्षयेद्ध्रुवम्
Even by remembering it, the multitude of sins is surely destroyed by the knowledge of this place.
डाकिनीशाकिनी भूतप्रेतवेतालराक्षसाः
Ḍākinīs, Śākinīs, ghosts, spirits, vampires, and demons,
ज्वरापस्मारविस्फोटद्वितीयकचतुर्थकाः
Fevers, epilepsy, eruptions, and the second and fourth types,
ज्ञानोदतीर्थपानीयैर्लिंगं यः स्नापयेत्सुधीः
Whoever, wise, bathes the liṅga with the waters of the tīrtha of knowledge,
ज्ञानरूपोह मेवात्र द्रवमूर्तिं विधाय च 4.1.33.
Here, indeed, I am of the form of knowledge, having assumed a liquid form.
इति दत्त्वा वराञ्छंभुस्तत्रैवांतरधीयत
Thus, having granted boons, Śambhu disappeared right there.
ईशानो जटिलो रुद्रस्तत्प्राश्य परमोदकम्
Īśāna, with matted hair, Rudra, having tasted that supreme water,
ज्ञानवाप्यां हि यद्वृत्तं तदाख्यामि निशामय
I will tell you what happened at the pond of knowledge; listen.
हरिस्वामीति विख्यातः काश्यामासीद्विजः पुरा
There was once a twice-born named Harisvāmi, renowned in Kāśī.
न समा शीलसंपत्त्या तस्या काचन भूतले
No one on earth equaled him in virtue and conduct.
न नारी तादृगस्तीह ना भरी किन्नरी न च [
No woman here was like him, nor any celestial maiden, nor any Kinnari.
सर्वसौंदर्यनिलया सर्वलक्षणसत्खनिः
She was the abode of all beauty, the mine of all auspicious qualities.
तदास्य शरणं यातो मन्ये दर्शभयाच्छशी
At that time, I think, the moon sought her protection out of fear of being seen.
तद्भ्रूर्भ्रमरराजीव गंडपत्रलतांतरे
Her eyebrow, like a line of bees, lies within the leafy curve of her cheek.
तच्चारुलोचनक्षेत्रे विचरंतौ च खंजनौ 4.1.33.
In the beautiful field of her eyes, two wagtails wander about.
सुदत्या रदनश्रेणी छेदेषु विषमेषुणा
On Sudatī’s row of teeth, in the uneven gaps, lies a sharp arrow.
प्रायो मदन भूपाल हर्म्य रत्नांतरे शुभे
O king, Madana usually dwells in the splendid inner chambers of her jeweled palace.
स्वर्गे मर्त्ये च पाताले नैषा रेखा क्वचित्स्त्रियाम्
In heaven, on earth, or in the underworld, such a line is never found on any woman.
शंके चित्त भुवो राज्ञो लसत्पटकुटीद्वयम्
I suspect, O mind, that the king’s heart is caught between her two shining garment-folds.
अनंगभू नियमतोऽदृश्ये मध्ये नतभ्रुवः
O Anangabhū, by rule, the invisible one is found in the middle of her arched brows.
तस्या नाभीदरीं प्राप्य कंदर्पोऽनंगता गतः
Having reached the hollow of her navel, Kāma has become bodiless.
गुरुणैतन्नितंबेन महामन्मथ दीक्षया
By her heavy hips, with the great initiation of Manmatha,
ऊरुस्तंभेन चैतस्याः स्तंभवत्कस्यनो मनः
And by the pillar of her thighs, whose mind would not become steadfast?
पादांगुष्ठनखज्योतिः प्रभया कस्य न प्रभा
Whose radiance would not be outshone by the light from her big toe’s nail?
