ध्यातृपापहरा ध्येया धावनी धूतकल्मषा
She removes the sins of meditators, is worthy of meditation, swift, and cleansed of impurity.
धर्माधर्मगुणच्छेत्त्री धत्तूरकुसुमप्रिया
She cuts the qualities of righteousness and unrighteousness, and delights in the flowers of the dhattūra plant.
धर्मलभ्या धर्मजला धर्मप्रसवधर्मिणी
She is attained through righteousness, is a stream of righteousness, and her nature is to give birth to righteousness.
? धूर्धूर्जटिजटासंस्था धन्या धीर्धारणावती
She abides in the matted locks of Dhūrjaṭi (Śiva), is fortunate, wise, and endowed with concentration.
निषिद्धविघ्ननिचया निजानंदप्रकाशिनी
She is the remover of all forbidden obstacles, and reveals her own bliss.
निर्मला निर्मलाख्याना नाशिनीतापसंपदाम्
She is pure, known as the pure one, and destroys the wealth of suffering.
नदीनदसरोमाता नायिका नाकदीर्घिका
She is the mother of rivers and streams, the leader, and the celestial reservoir.
निर्णिक्ताशेषभुवना निःसंगा निरुपद्रवा 4.1.29.
She purifies all worlds, is unattached, and free from trouble.
परमैश्वर्यजननी प्रज्ञा प्राज्ञा परापरा 4.1.29.

Shiva delighted by passion, a treasury of beauty and charm.
श्मशानशोधनी शांता शश्वच्छतधृतिष्टुता 4.1.29.
Purifier of cremation grounds, tranquil, ever praised by those of steadfast resolve.
श्रद्धयाभीष्टफलदं चतुर्वर्गसमृद्धिकृत् 4.1.29.
By faith, she grants desired fruits and brings abundance in the four aims of life.
जन्मांतर सहस्रेषु यत्पापं सम्यगर्जितम् 4.1.29.
Whatever sin was properly confessed over thousands of lifetimes,
गुरुशुश्रूषणं कुर्वन्यावज्जीवं नरोत्तमः 4.1.29.
The best of men who serves the guru throughout life,
दिव्याभरणसंपन्नो दिव्यभोगसमन्वितः 4.1.29.
Is endowed with divine ornaments and accompanied by celestial enjoyments.
गंगास्नानप्रतिनिधिः स्तोत्रमेतन्मयेरितम्
This hymn, composed by me, is equivalent to bathing in the Ganga.
आराध्य श्रीमहादेवमुद्दिधीर्षुः पितामहान्
Having worshipped the glorious Mahadeva, the forefathers wished to ascend.
ब्रह्मशाप विनिर्दग्धान्सर्वान्राजर्षिसत्तमः
The foremost of royal sages, burned by Brahma's curse, all of them—
त्रयाणामपि लोकानां हिताय महते नृपः
For the great benefit of all three worlds, the king—
आनंदकाननं शंभोश्चक्रपुष्करिणी हरेः
Led the Ganga to the blissful forest of Shambhu and the lotus-lake of Hari.
प्रापयामास तां गंगां दैलीपिः पुरतश्चरन्
Dilip, moving ahead, brought that Ganga there.
अविमुक्तं महाक्षेत्रं न मुक्तं शंभुना क्वचित
Avimukta, the great sacred place, is never abandoned by Shambhu.
पुनर्वारितरेणापि हीरेणयदि संगतम्
Even if joined with another, even with a diamond, it is not surpassed.
ततः श्रेष्ठतरं शंभोर्मणिश्रवणभूषणात्
Therefore, it is superior to the jeweled ear-ornament of Shambhu.
प्रागेव मुक्तिः संसिद्धा गंगासंगात्ततोधिका
Liberation is attained even before, but through contact with the Ganga, it is greater still.
तदाप्रभृति तत्क्षेत्रं दुष्प्रापं त्रिदशैरपि 4.1.30.
From that time onward, even the gods found that sacred place difficult to attain.
तानि क्षणात्समुत्क्षिप्य काशीसंस्थोऽमृतोभवेत्
Whoever is established in Kāśī, having been lifted up in an instant, becomes immortal.
