जनकः शुभतिथ्यादौ विदेशगमनापहम्
The father, on auspicious dates and such, prevents the journey to foreign lands.
सर्वदा मिष्टमश्नाति कर्मणा येन भास्करे
He always eats what is pleasing, by whose action the sun is honored.
कर्मणा येन केशाः स्युः स्निग्धाः कुसुमवर्षिणः
By whose action the hair becomes glossy, showering flowers.
सुवर्णग्राहिणौ येन कर्णौ स्यातां च सुश्रुती ब्रह्मचर्याभिवृद्ध्यै यो ब्रह्मग्रहणहेतुकः
By whose action the ears become golden and well-hearing; for the increase of celibacy, he is the cause of receiving the Veda.
मौंजीमोक्षणवार्तापि कृता नास्य जनुःकृता
Even the ceremony of removing the muñja girdle was not performed for him, nor was his birth-rite accomplished.
यथाकथंचिदूढाऽथ पत्नी त्यक्तकुलाध्वगा

दंदशूकैर्भृशं दष्टो दुष्टः शिष्टैर्विगर्हितः
He was severely bitten by poisonous creatures, condemned by the virtuous, and reviled by the good.
आस्फालितं शिरोनेनासकृच्चापि दुरात्मना
His head was repeatedly struck by that wicked soul.
असौ हि ब्राह्मणो मंदो गायत्रीमपिवेदन
That foolish Brahmin drank the Gayatri mantra.
आत्मार्थं पायसमसौ पर्यपाक्षीदनेकधा
For his own sake, he cooked rice pudding many times.
विषलोहायुधानां च दासीगोवाजिनामपि 4.1.28.
He possessed weapons made of poisonous metal, as well as female slaves, cows, and horses.
शूद्रान्न परिपुष्टांगः पर्वण्यहनि मैथुनी
He was nourished by food from Shudras, and engaged in intercourse on festival days.
पक्षिणो घातितानेन मृगाश्चापि परः शतम्

असिपत्रवने घोरे यंत्रपीडे सुदंष्ट्रके
In the dreadful Asipatra forest, in the torture chamber, and among sharp-fanged beasts—
सूचीभेद्येऽथ संदंशे लालापे क्षुरधारके

धर्मराजः समाकर्ण्य चित्रगुप्तमुखादिति
