So is austerity destroyed by anger, and discernment by desire,
And as righteousness is ruined by hypocrisy, crookedness, and deceit,
Having attained a human birth, which is rare and as fleeting as a flash of lightning,
Those mortals who have cast off sin and realize the supreme form of light,
Are like a common river filled with ordinary water,
I am the liberator from worldly existence, out of compassion for people,
Every moment is auspicious, and every place is likewise holy,
As the horse sacrifice is foremost among sacrifices, and the Himalaya among mountains,
So is breath control among austerities, and Om among mantras,
As self-knowledge is the highest among all branches of knowledge, and Gauri among women,
So among all vessels, the devotee of Shiva is the best,
The wise do not make a distinction between us, O Hari,
I am the great wind that scatters the dust of sin, the axe that fells the tree of evil,
The ancestors, of many forms, always sing hymns,
Having satisfied the divine sages, and the poor, the helpless, and the afflicted,
May one such as this be born in our lineage, who sees equality in Shiva and Vishnu.
Whether without desire or with desire, or even one born in an animal womb,
Those who, standing on the banks of the Ganga, praise any other sacred place,
Whoever hates me, you, or the Ganga, that lowest of men—
Sixty thousand hosts always protect the Ganga.
With sharp arrows of desire, anger, great delusion, greed, and the like,
He who takes refuge in the Ganga is a sage and a wise man.
One who bathes even once in the Ganga obtains the fruit of a horse sacrifice.
He who bathes in the Ganga continuously for a month becomes virtuous.
He who bathes in the Ganga continuously for a year partakes of merit.
A mortal who bathes in the Ganga every day for his whole life—
In the water of Jahnavi, one need not consider lunar days, stars, or festivals.
Even a learned man there becomes a fool, and one with power becomes powerless.
What of wind, water, disease, or even blossoming fortune?
Whoever builds a shrine in imitation of the Ganga—
