Then, beholding that great one, adorned with supreme glory.
The Vedas are your breath; from them you will know everything.
Having spoken thus to him, the Lord of great beings, embodiment of the essence of intellect.
Then the blessed Vishnu, placing the command upon his crown.
Hari, having dug there with the discus, made a beautiful lotus pond.
He performed severe austerity for fifty thousand years.
Then the blessed Lord, accompanied by Mrida and others.
He spoke to Hrishikesha, repeatedly shaking his crown.
Ah! This fire, without fuel, burns ceaselessly.
Recognizing this as Mrida's utterance, he spoke.
Śrī Viṣṇu said: If you are pleased, O Lord of the gods, O great Lord Maheśvara,
In all actions, everywhere, I see only you, O moon-crested one.
Eager for the honey of the nectar from your lotus feet,
So be it, O Hṛṣīkeśa, as you have spoken, O Janārdana.
By the sight of this great accumulation of your austerity,
From the shaking of the ear, the jewel earring fell.
This auspicious place, formerly known as Cakrapuṣkariṇī tīrtha,
When this Maṇikarṇikā fell from my ear,
Let this be the supreme tīrtha of all tīrthas, truly a field of liberation here.
Because the light shines here, it is called by that very name, O Lord.
Ask for another boon, O god, it shall be given, even without deliberation.
From Brahmā down to a blade of grass, whatever bears the name of living being,
In this best of tīrthas, O Śambhu, adorned with the jewel earring, offerings of water, gifts of food, and worship of the gods—
Cows, land, gold, horses, lamps, food, garments, and ornaments—
The dedication of vows, the release of bulls, and the installation of liṅgas and other images,
Even great misfortune, and abundant but unstable prosperity,
And any other auspicious act performed here with faith,
Let that, O Lord of the universe, be the cause of supreme welfare and prosperity.
May that attain imperishability here, O Lord, by Your grace.
Whatever exists, whatever will be, and whatever has been, O Sadashiva,
