लयित्वा निजमास्थाय रूपमुत्कटसुन्दरम्
Assuming her own exceedingly beautiful form, she became absorbed.
मानातिरेकादपहाय सर्वमैश्वर्यमेवं तपसि प्रवृत्ताम्
Out of surpassing pride, she renounced all her splendor and engaged in austerity.
शक्रः पुलोमसुतया परे दिक्पालका अपि
Indra, with Puloma's daughter, and the other guardians of the directions,
गंधर्वाप्सरसां संघा वसवोऽपि सुरा अपि
The hosts of Gandharvas and Apsarases, as well as the Vasus and other gods,
एकादशमहारुद्रा आदित्या द्वादशापि च
The eleven great Rudras and the twelve Ādityas,
यक्षरक्षोरगा भूता ये चान्ये शिवकिंकराः
Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, serpents, spirits, and other attendants of Śiva,
परिवार्य महेशानं समाजग्मुः सहस्रशः
Surrounded Maheśāna and approached him by the thousands.
अतीव विस्मयं भेजुः सर्वे कल्पांतभीषणम्
All were struck with intense wonder, as if at the terror of the world's end.
चिररात्रप्ररूढां च तद्वियोगव्यथां जहौ
She abandoned the pain of separation, which had grown over many nights.
पादांगुलीषु नयने विनिवेशयति स्म सा स्मितशरीरकंठश्रीप्रणयेनैवमब्रवीत्
She placed her eyes upon his toes, and with affection shining in her smiling body and graceful throat, she spoke thus.
सर्वैराराधनीयेति मयापि घटितोंजलिः 1.3.2.21.

अनादिसिद्धं देवेशि तवेदं मौग्ध्यमीदृशम्
O Lady of the Gods, this bewilderment of yours is eternal and innate.

Where are austerities and meditations, suited for harsh people? I am Nārāyaṇa, you are Lakṣmī; I am Brahmā, you are Sarasvatī.
वारुणी त्वं फणींद्रोहं रोहिणी त्वमहं शशी
You are Vāruṇī, I am the lord of serpents; you are Rohiṇī, I am the moon.
जाह्नवी त्वं समुद्रोऽहं मेरुरस्मि त्वमुर्वरा
You are Jāhnavī, I am the ocean; you are Meru, I am the earth.
बुद्धिस्त्वं राजराजोहं त्वं शमाऽहं समीरण
You are wisdom, I am the king of kings; you are tranquility, I am the wind.
विद्या त्वं वेदितव्योऽहं वाक्त्वमर्थोपि पार्वती
You are knowledge, I am the one to be known; you are speech, and I am meaning, O Pārvatī.
सृष्टि स्थित्युपसंहारविधानानुग्रहेश्वरे
In creation, preservation, dissolution, and the granting of grace, I am the lord.
चित्प्रकाशात्मनोर्देवि स्वेच्छाधृतशरीरया
O goddess, with a body sustained by your own will, you are the essence of consciousness and light.
दृष्टाप्रतिक्रिया तस्य क्रियते याधुना मया
That which has no remedy is now being acted upon by me.
गौरीं स्वकीय एवांगे गूहमानामिव ह्रिया 1.3.2.21.
Gaurī, as if out of modesty, concealed herself within her own body.
अर्थद्वयमिवाह्नाय संनिकर्षोपलंभतः
Like two meanings united by proximity, they came together.
तद्विचित्रमभूदंगं शिवयोरेकतां गतम्
That wondrous form appeared, the union of Śiva and Śivā.
अंगादर्धेंदुचूडस्य वपुरर्धेन्दुकूलितम्
Half the body was adorned with the crescent moon, and half was draped in moonlight.
एकपिंगलसध्रीचो गात्रमेकस्तनं बभौ
The limbs shone with a single tawny hue, and one breast was visible.
अवकाशो रुषो देवि मा भूरतः परं तव
O goddess, let there be no place for anger in you beyond this.
तदपीतस्तनीनाम्ना निवसात्र ममांतिके
Even so, O breast-named one, dwell here beside me.
जनाः सर्वे समाराध्य रमंतां भोगमोक्षयोः
Let all people worship and delight in both enjoyment and liberation.
अत्रैव सन्निधत्तां तु मंत्रसिद्धिप्रदा नृणाम्
Let her, who grants success in mantras to people, be present here.
सर्वरोगहरं पुंसामस्तु सर्वाघनाशनम्
May it remove all diseases of men and destroy all misfortunes.
