गर्जत्कादंबिनीजालं व्योम्नि वै व्याकुलं यथा
Like a tumultuous mass of thunderclouds roaring in the sky.
अथ जंभारिणा सार्धं भीताः सर्वे दिवौकसः
Then, together with the slayer of Jambha, all the gods became afraid.
नत्वा विज्ञापयामासुः परिष्टुत्या पितामहम्
Having bowed, they humbly addressed and praised the Grandfather.
तपता तापिताः सर्वे त्रिलोकी तलवासिनः
All the inhabitants of the three worlds were tormented by his blazing heat.
सम्यक्संविद्महे तात धुवस्य न मनीषितम्
O dear one, we truly do not understand the intention of Dhruva.
इति विज्ञापितो देवैर्विहस्य चतुराननः
Thus addressed by the gods, the four-faced one smiled.
व्रजंतु विज्वराः सर्वे न स वः पदमिच्छति
Let all be free from distress; he does not seek your place.
न तस्माद्भगवद्भक्ताद्भेतव्यं केनचित्क्वचित्
No one, anywhere, should fear a devotee of the Blessed Lord.
आराध्य विष्णुं देवेशं लब्ध्वा तस्मात्स्वकांक्षितम्
Having worshipped Viṣṇu, the Lord of gods, and obtained his desired boon from him—
निशम्येति च गीर्वाणाः प्रणीतं ब्रह्मणो वचः 4.1.20.
Hearing these words, graciously spoken by Brahmā, the gods—
अथ नारायणो देवस्तं दृष्ट्वा दृढमानसम्
Then the god Nārāyaṇa, seeing him firm in mind—
श्रीविष्णुरुवाच प्रसन्नोस्मि महाभाग वरं वरय सुव्रत
Śrī Viṣṇu said: I am pleased, O highly fortunate one. Choose a boon, O steadfast in vow.
वचोऽमृतं समाकर्ण्य पर्युन्मील्य विलोचने
Hearing these nectar-like words, he opened his eyes wide.
प्रत्यग्रविकसन्नीलोत्पलानां निकुरंबकैः
With clusters of freshly blossomed blue lotuses—
लक्ष्मीदेवीकटाक्षोघैः कटाक्षितमिवाखिलम्
As if the whole assembly was graced by the floods of glances from Lady Lakṣmī.
प्रोद्यत्कादंबिनीमध्य विद्युद्दामसमानरुक्
In the midst of rising clouds, shining like a band of lightning.
नभो निकष पाषाणो मेरुकांचन रेखितः
The sky is like a touchstone, marked with golden lines of Mount Meru.
सुनीलगगनं यद्वद्भूषितं तु कलावता
Just as the deep blue heavens are adorned by the moon’s phases.
दंडवत्प्रणिपत्याथ परितः परिलुठ्य च
Then, having prostrated himself like a staff and rolling about all around.
नारदेन सनंदेन सनकेन सुसंस्तुतः 4.1.20.
He was highly praised by Narada, Sananda, and Sanaka.
स्पर्शनाद्देवदेवस्य सुसंस्कृतमयी शुभा
By the touch of the Lord of gods, the well-crafted and auspicious (object).
हिरण्यरेतसे तुभ्यं सुहिरण्यप्रदायिने
Salutations to you, O golden-semened one, bestower of excellent gold.
नमो हरस्वरूपाय भूतसंहारकारिणे
Salutations to the one whose form is Hara, who brings about the destruction of beings.
नमः स्थितिकृते तुभ्यं विष्णवे प्रभविष्णवे
Salutations to you, the sustainer, to Vishnu, the mighty Vishnu.
नमो दैत्यमहारण्य दाववह्निस्वरूपिणे
Salutations to you, whose form is the blazing wildfire in the great forest of demons.
नमः कौमोदकीव्यग्र कराग्राय गदाधर
Salutations to you, whose hand is busy with the Kaumodaki mace, O wielder of the club.
नमः श्रीपतये तुभ्यं नमश्चक्रधराय च
Salutations to you, Lord of Shri, and salutations to you, wielder of the discus.
नमः कमलहस्ताय कमलावल्लभाय ते
Salutations to you, whose hand holds the lotus, beloved of Lakshmi.
नमो वेदांतवेद्याय नमः श्रीवत्सधारिणे
Salutations to you, who are known through Vedanta, and to you, bearer of the mark of Shrivatsa.
नमस्ते पद्मनाभाय पांचजन्यधराय च
Salutations to you, Padmanabha, and to you, bearer of the Panchajanya conch.
