शब्दादिविषयाधारं सारं दामोदरं परम्

इंद्र चंद्राग्नि वरुण समीरण धनाधिपाः
Indra, Chandra, Agni, Varuna, Vayu, and the lord of wealth,
वैमानिकास्तथाऽन्येपि वसुमुख्या दिवौकसः
The celestial beings who travel by air, and other foremost Vasus among the dwellers of heaven,
यत्र यत्र ध्रुवः पादं मिनोति पृथिवीतले
Wherever the steadfast one places his foot upon the earth,
अहो तदंगसंगीनि त्यक्त्वा जाड्यं जलान्यपि
Ah, those who are close to his limbs, abandoning their inertia, even the waters,
यावंति विष्वक्तेजांसि सिद्धरूपगुणानि च
As many radiant energies and perfected qualities as there are,
अहो निजगुणस्पर्शः सततं मातरिश्वना
Ah, the touch of his own qualities is ever present through the wind,
व्योम्नापि शब्दगुणिना ध्रुवाराधनबुद्धिना
Even through the sky, which possesses the quality of sound, with the mind devoted to Dhruva's worship,
आराधितोऽनुदिवसं सभूतैरपि पंचभिः 4.1.20.
He is worshipped daily, even by the five elements that have arisen.
कौस्तुभोद्भासितहृदः पीतकौशेयवाससः
His heart shines with the Kaustubha gem, clad in yellow silk garments,
मरुत्वतातिमहती चिंताऽप्ता तत्तपोभयात्
From the wind-god, a great anxiety was attained, due to that austerity,
समर्थस्त्वप्सरोवर्गो नियंतुं यमिनां यमान्
The group of Apsaras is capable of restraining those who restrain themselves,
तपस्विनां तपो हंतुं द्वौ मत्साहाय्यकारिणौ
To destroy the austerity of ascetics, two act as helpers for me,
एक एव किलोपायो बाले मे प्रभविष्यति
Indeed, only one method will prove effective for the child,
बालत्वाद्भीषितो भूतैस्तपस्त्यक्ष्यत्यसौ ध्रुवम्
Because of his childhood, frightened by spirits, he will surely abandon his austerity,
भल्लूकाकारसर्वांग उष्ट्रलंबशिरोधरः
With the form of a bear throughout his body, and the head hanging like a camel,
तं व्याघ्रवदनः कश्चिद्व्यादाय विकटाननम्
Someone with a tiger's face, opening his dreadful mouth,
रयात्तु मांसकं भुंजन्कश्चिद्विकटदंष्ट्रकः
Another, with terrible fangs, devouring flesh from the body,
अतितीक्ष्णैर्विषाणाग्रैस्तटानुच्चान्विदारयन् 4.1.20.
Tearing the limbs with exceedingly sharp horn-tips, raising them high,
कश्चिद्धि पन्नगी भूय फटाटोपभयानकः
Someone, indeed, as a serpent, terrifying with the sound of his hood,
कश्चिच्च महिषाकारः क्षिपञ्शृंगाग्रतो गिरोन्
And another, in the form of a buffalo, hurling the tips of his horns at the mountain,
कश्चिद्दावानलालीढ खर्जूरद्रुमसन्निभम्
Someone, scorched by a forest fire, resembled a date palm tree.
मौलिजैरभ्रसंघर्षं कुर्वन्दीर्घकृशोदरः
With matted hair scraping against the clouds, long and gaunt of belly.
कृपाणपाणिर्भग्नास्यो वामहस्तकपालधृत्
Holding a sword in hand, mouth broken, bearing a skull in the left hand.
विशाल सालमादाय कुर्वन्किल किलारवम्
Seizing a great sala tree, he made a loud, resounding cry.
तमः संकेतसदनं व्याघ्रं वै वदनं महत्

उलूकाकारतां धृत्वा फूत्कारैरतिदारुणैः
