अस्य स्तोत्रस्य पठनादपि वागुदियाच्च यम्
By reciting this hymn, or by the excellence of speech, one attains that which is sought.
समुत्पन्ने महाकार्ये न स बुद्ध्या प्रहीयते
When a great undertaking arises, his intellect is not diminished.
अस्यस्तोत्रस्य पठनान्नियतं मम संनिधौ
By reciting this hymn in my presence, it is certain.
अदः स्तोत्रं पठञ्जंतुर्जातुपीडां ग्रहोद्भवाम्
Whoever recites this hymn dispels afflictions arising from planets.
नित्यं प्रातः समुत्थाय यः पठिष्यति मानवः 4.1.17.
Whoever, rising every morning, recites it continually, O man,
त्वत्प्रतिष्ठितलिंगस्य पूजां कृत्वा प्रयत्नतः
Having carefully performed worship of the liṅga established by you,
इति दत्त्वा वराञ्छंभुः पुनर्ब्रह्माणमाह्वयत्
Having granted these boons, Śambhu again called upon Brahmā.
तानागतान्समालोक्य शिवो व्रह्माणमब्रवीत्
Seeing them arrive, Śiva spoke to Brahmā.
गुरुं सर्वसुरेंद्राणां परितः स्वगुणैर्गुरुम्
The guru of all the lords of the gods, surrounded by his own virtues, is the guru.
अतीव धिषणाधीशो ममप्रीतोभविष्यति
The lord of supreme wisdom will become exceedingly dear to me.
सुरज्येष्ठः सुराचार्यं चकारांगिरसं तदा
The chief among the gods then made Aṅgiras the teacher of the gods.
गुरुपूजां व्यधुः सर्वे गीर्वाणा मुदिताननाः
All the celestial beings joyfully performed worship of the guru.
पुनरन्यं वरं प्रादाद्गिरीशः पतये गिराम्
Again, Girīśa granted another boon to the lord of speech.
भवतास्थापितं लिंगं सुबुद्धिपरिवर्धनम्
The liṅga established by you increases excellent wisdom.
गुरुपुष्यसमायोगे लिंगमेतत्समर्च्य च 4.1.17.
When Guru and Puṣya unite, worship this liṅga.
बृहस्पतीश्वरं लिंगं मया गोप्यं कलौ युगे
The liṅga of Bṛhaspati, O lord, is to be kept secret by me in the Kali age.
चंद्रेश्वराद्दक्षिणतो वीरेशान्नैर्ऋते स्थितम्
To the south of Candreśvara, from Vīreśa in the southwest, it is situated.
गुर्वंगना गमनजं पापं षण्मास सेवनात्
Sin arising from intercourse with the wife of a teacher is incurred by six months of association.
अतएव हि गोप्तव्यं महापातकनाशनम्
Therefore, it must be protected, for it destroys great sins.
इति दत्त्वा वरान्देवस्तत्रैवांतर्हितो भवत्
Thus, after granting the boons, the god became invisible right there.
अस्मिन्पुरेभिषिच्याथ विसृज्येंद्रादिकान्सुरान्
In this city, after anointing, I released Indra and the other gods.
शिवशर्मा पुरी सौरेः प्रभामंडल मंडिताम्
Śivaśarmā saw the city of Sūrya, adorned with a circle of radiance.
पृष्टौ तेन च तौ तत्र तां पुरीं प्रददर्शतुः
Then, at his back, those two showed him that city.
गणावूचतुः मारीचेः कश्यपाज्जज्ञे दाक्षायण्यां द्विजोष्णगुः
The attendants said: From Marīci and Kaśyapa was born, in Dākṣāyaṇī, the twice-born Uṣṇagu.
भर्तुरिष्टा ततस्तस्माद्रूपयौवनशालिनी 4.1.17.
She was beloved of her husband, and therefore possessed beauty and youth.
आदित्यस्य हि तद्रूपं मंडलस्य तु तेजसा
That form belongs to Āditya, and the brilliance to the orb.
न खल्वयमृतोंऽडस्थ इति स्नेहादभाषत
He did not say, 'This is not nectar within the egg,' out of affection.
तेजस्त्वभ्यधिकं तस्य साऽसहिष्णुर्विवस्वतः
But her radiance exceeded that of Vivasvat, and she could not endure it.
त्रीण्यपत्यानि भो ब्रह्मन्संज्ञायां महसां निधिः
O Brahman, three children were born to Saṃjñā, the repository of greatness.
वैवस्वतं मनुं ज्येष्ठं यमं च यमुनां ततः
Vaivasvata Manu, the eldest, and Yama, and then Yamunā.
