This is Śukra, O Lord; thus he quickly reported this to Bhava.
Without saying anything, that protector of beings cast the eminent poet, like a fruit, into his mouth.
When the poem was swallowed by the Lord of the Mountain's consort, the demons became devoid of hope for victory.
Like groups of living beings deprived of bodies, or like twice-born men lacking study,
Like women bereft of husbands, or like flights of arrows without an enemy,
Just as streams of actions become fruitless without a single power of prosperity,
When Śukra was taken away by Nandin and swallowed by the sorrowful one,
Seeing them dispirited, Andhaka addressed them.
Our life-breaths have been taken away today, along with our bodies, by him.
All at once, everything was lost when that descendant of Bhṛgu was taken; the guru, all-capable and our protector, did not save us in adversity.
Therefore, relying on courage here, fight together with the enemies.
Today, having slain these helpless ones, along with the gods and their Indras—
And even if that yogi, the Lord himself, by yoga—
Thus, hearing Andhaka's speech, the Dānavas roared like thunderclouds.
Yet, truly, we could never be able to withstand the might of the Pramathas.
Those people who, abandoning their master in battle, are rich in honor—
Their fame is stained again and again by the darkness of disgrace.
What use are gifts, what use are austerities, what use is bathing at holy places?
Thus, those Daityas and Danavas deliberated with one another.
There, with showers of arrows, swords, thunderbolts, and stones,
With clubs, spears, tridents, maces, and pestles in abundance,
From the drawn bows and the flying arrows,
And with the blaring of battle-trumpets and the loud trumpeting of elephants,
The space between heaven and earth was filled with reverberating echoes.
The mighty roars of elephants and horses, and the sharp sounds of their cries,
Strange displays of bloodshed, and the horses, elephants, and chariots,
Seeing the army being shattered here and there by the Pramathas,
By the blows of arrows and thunderbolts, like trees struck by thunder,
Observing those approaching, departing, distant and near,
By Vinayaka, Skanda, Nandi, and Somanandi,
