O Śambhu, beloved of Śiva, tranquil and glorious, bearer of the trident at your throat,
O wielder of the Pināka bow, Lord of the mountains, blue-throated, ever-auspicious one,
I do not know how to praise you, O Maheshvara, lover of praise.
This alone is my boon, O Lord, that you are pleased, O God.
Then Maheshana, satisfied by that praise, spoke.
Your world will be above the realm of the stars.
This liṅga you have established grants wisdom to all.
Having said this, the blessed Śambhu vanished right there.
The Gaṇas said: In Kāśī, a man who attains wisdom by worshipping Budheśvara crosses the ocean of existence, even if he is fallen.
To the east of Candreśvara, seeing the Budheśvara liṅga—
As the Gaṇas thus recounted the story, they went to Budha's world.
O highly intelligent Śivaśarman, this is the wondrous world of Śukra.
After drinking the harsh smoke of burnt grain for a thousand years,
He does not know this knowledge, though called a divine teacher, and is unfortunate.
Śivaśarma said: Who is this Śukra, renowned by that name, for whom this world is supreme?
O divine ones, if you are pleased with me, please tell me this.
Hearing which, those endowed with faith are freed from untimely death.
When the battle was raging between Andhaka and the enemy of Andhaka,
Then Andhaka, withdrawing from that fight, approached Śukra.
O blessed one, taking refuge in you, we and the gods with their followers—
Like elephants from lions, like serpents from Garuḍas—
The Daityas entered the impenetrable diamond formation.
But we, having taken your shelter, stood unmoving like mountains.
With sincere devotion, we approach your feet, which grant happiness.
O wise one, kindly protect those who have sought your refuge.
Pāka, Kārtasvana, Vipāka, and Pākahārin—
Were overcome by the Pramathas, fierce and mighty, destroyers of death.
By drinking Kaṇadhūma, in ancient times, one lived a thousand autumns.
Now, I will tell you the fruit of that knowledge, by which you will revive the Daityas.
Hearing these words of Andhaka, the steadfast sage Bhārgava—
