जपहोमार्चनध्यानदानब्राह्मणभोजनम्
Recitation, oblation, worship, meditation, giving, and feeding of Brahmins,
जीर्णोद्धारादिकरणं नृत्यवाद्यादिकार्पणम्
Restoration of what is worn, making arrangements, offering music and dance,
चंद्रेश्वरे कृतं सर्वं तदानंत्याय जायते
All that is performed at Candreśvara becomes endless in its result.
अभक्ताय च नाख्येयं नास्तिकाय श्रुतिद्रुहे
This should not be told to the faithless, nor to the atheist, nor to one hostile to the scriptures.
तदोपवासः कर्तव्यो भूतायां सद्भिरादरात्
Therefore, fasting should be undertaken by the virtuous with reverence on the Bhūtā day.
शनिप्रदोषे संपूज्य लिंगं चंद्रेश्वराह्वयम्
On the evening of Saturday, worship the liṅga named Candreśvara.
उपोष्य च चतुर्दश्यां कृत्वा जागरणं निशि 4.1.14.
Having fasted on the fourteenth day, keep vigil through the night.
उपास्य संध्यां विधिवत्कृतसर्वोदक क्रियः
Having properly worshipped at twilight, and performed all water rites,
आवाहनार्घ्यरहितं पिंडान्दद्यात्प्रयत्नतः
With care, offer balls of food without invocation or offering of water.
मातामहांस्तथोद्दिश्य तथान्यानपि गोत्रजान्
Addressing them to maternal grandfathers and likewise to other kin of the lineage,
कुर्वञ्छ्राद्धं च तीर्थेस्मिञ्छ्रद्धयोद्धरतेखिलान्
Performing śrāddha here at the holy place with faith, one uplifts all ancestors.
तथा चंद्रोदकुंडेऽत्र श्राद्धैस्तृप्यंति पूर्वजाः
Thus, in the Candrodakunda, the forefathers are satisfied by śrāddha offerings.
तथा प्रमुच्यते चर्णाच्चंद्रोदे पिण्डदानतः
And so, release is attained from bondage at Candroda by the offering of balls of food.
तदा नृत्यंति मुदितास्तत्पूर्वप्रपितामहाः
Then, those ancestors, delighted, dance joyfully.
अस्माकं मंदभाग्यत्वाद्यदि नैव करिष्यति
If, due to our misfortune, he does not perform it,
स्पृशेन्नापि यदा मंदस्तदा द्रक्ष्यति तृप्तये संतर्प्य विप्रांश्च यतीन्कुर्याद्वै पारणं ततः
and if the dull-witted one does not even touch it, then he will see for his satisfaction; having satisfied the Brahmins and ascetics, he should then break the fast.
एवं व्रते कृते काश्यां सदर्शे सोमवासरे 4.1.14.
When this vow is observed in Kashi, on the day of the new moon that falls on a Monday,
अत्र यात्रा महाचैत्र्यां कार्या क्षेत्रनिवासिभिः
at that time, a pilgrimage during the great Chaitra festival should be undertaken by the residents of the region.
चंद्रेश्वरं समभ्यर्च्य यद्यन्यत्रापि संस्थितः
Having duly worshipped Candreśvara, even if one is situated elsewhere,
कलौ चंद्रेशमहिमा नाभाग्यैरवगम्यते
In the Kali age, the glory of Candreśa is not understood by those lacking merit.
सिद्धयोगीश्वरं पीठमेतत्साधकसिद्धिदम्
This seat of the accomplished yogi-lords grants success to practitioners.
रक्षोगुह्यकयक्षेषु किंनरेषु नरेषु च ।। सप्तकोट्यस्तु सिद्धानामत्र सिद्धा ममाग्रतः
Among rakṣasas, guhyakas, yakṣas, kinnaras, and humans, there are seventy million perfected beings here, and the siddhas are before me.
षण्मासं नियताहारो ध्यायन्विश्वेश्वरीमिह
One who, for six months, eats in moderation and meditates here on Viśveśvarī,
सिद्धयोगीश्वरी साक्षाद्वरदा तस्य जायते
for him, Siddhayogīśvarī herself directly becomes the granter of boons.
संति पाठान्यनेकानि क्षितौ साधकसिद्धये
There are many recitations on earth for the accomplishment of practitioners.
यत्र चंद्रेश्वरं लिंगं त्वयेदं स्थापितं शशिन्
Where this liṅga of Candreśvara, O Moon, has been established by you,
जितकामा जितक्रोधा जितलोभस्पृहास्मिताः 4.1.14.
those who have conquered desire, anger, greed, attachment, and pride,
ये तु प्रत्यष्टमि जनास्तथा प्रति चतुर्दशि
and those people who, on each aṣṭamī and likewise on each caturdaśī,
अदृष्टरूपां सुभगां पिंगलां सर्वसिद्धिदाम्
behold the auspicious, tawny one of unseen form, bestower of all accomplishments,
इति दत्त्वा वराञ्छंभुस्तस्मै चंद्रमसे द्विज
Thus, having granted boons, Śambhu gave them to Candra, O twice-born one.
