The Gaṇas said: 'Behold this fragrant, sacred city of Gandhavatī, belonging to Vāyu.'
In this city, Prabhañjana by name, is the lord of the directions and the life-breath of the world.
Long ago, the descendant of Kaśyapa, renowned as Pūtātmā,
dwelt in Vārāṇasī, O illustrious one, for a hundred thousand years.
By merely seeing him, a person would become pure in soul.
And he spoke, his mind serene, an ocean of nectar-like compassion.
By this intense austerity and by worship of the liṅga,
O God of gods, Great Lord, bestower of fearlessness to the gods,
Even the Vedas do not find you out—what is your true nature, O Lord?
Neither Brahmā nor Viṣṇu, nor even the lord of speech, can reach you with words.
Yet, O Lord, devotion alone compels me to praise you in hymn.
You are the universe; there is truly no division—since you alone pervade all.
Before creation, you alone existed, devoid of form and name.
When, being alone, you could not delight, you acted freely, O Lord.
You alone became dual, by the distinction of Śiva and Śakti.
By both Śiva and Śakti, by you two, through your own play,
O Lord, knowledge-power is known as Bhavānī, will-power is called Umā.
Your right side is Brahmā, your left side is Acyuta (Viṣṇu).
From your sweat are the oceans; your ear is the wind.
The best of the royal class are your arms; the Vaiśyas arose from your thighs.
You, in the form of primordial nature, once created the cosmic egg.
Therefore, I do not consider anything in this universe to be separate from you.
Salutations to you, salutations to you, salutations to you again and again.
When the Lord of the gods, pure in essence, had been thus addressed,
He who pervades all, who reveals all principles through my form,
Those humans who behold this divine liṅga of yours here,
The liṅga of Pavamāneśvara, even once in their lifetime,
Are honored in my world with fragrant sandal and flowers.
By worshipping Pavamāna, one becomes purified at that very moment.
The Gaṇas said: In the east of that place is the splendid city of Kubera, Alakā.
