प्रतिमंत्रं नमस्कुर्यादुदयास्तमये रविम्
At sunrise and sunset, one should bow to the Sun with each mantra.
एवं कुर्वन्नरो जातु न दरिद्रो न दुःखभाक् 4.1.9.
A person who does so is never poor nor afflicted by suffering.
विनौषधैर्विना वैद्यैर्विनापथ्यपरिग्रहैः
Without medicines, without physicians, and without dietary restrictions,
इत्येकदेशः कथितो भानुलोकस्य सत्तम
Thus, a portion concerning the world of the Sun has been described, O noble one.
स्वकर्णविषयीकुर्वन्नितिपुण्यकथामिमाम्
Whoever makes this virtuous tale reach his own ears,
न दरिद्रो भवेत्क्वापि नाधर्मेषु प्रवर्तते
Will never be poor anywhere, nor engage in unrighteous acts.
ब्राह्मणैः सततं श्राव्यमिदमाख्यानमुत्तमम्
This excellent narrative should always be recited by brāhmaṇas.
ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया वैश्याः शृण्वंतोऽध्यायमुत्तमम्
Brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, and vaiśyas, hearing this supreme chapter,
नयनानंदसंदोहदायिनीपूरनुत्तमा
Bestows a flood of joy upon the eyes and is supremely fulfilling.
गणावूचतुः शिवशर्मन्महाभागसुतीर्थफलितद्रुम
The Gaṇas said: O highly fortunate Śivaśarman, tree bearing the fruit of holy pilgrimage,
तपोबलेन महता विहिता विश्वकमर्णा
By great power of austerity, the all-encompassing river was established.
यदाकलानिधिः क्वापि दर्शे ऽदृश्यत्वमावहेत्
Whenever the moon-possessor appears somewhere, he may become invisible.
यदच्छभित्तौ वीक्ष्य स्वमन्ययोपिद्विशंकिता
When, seeing herself reflected in a clear wall, she became suspicious of another,
हर्म्येषु नीलमणिभिर्निर्मितेष्वत्रनिर्भयम्
In mansions constructed with blue gems, there is no fear here.
चंद्रकांतशिलाजालस्रुतमात्रामलंजलम्
Pure water flows only from lattices of moonstone.
कुविंदा न च संत्यत्र न च ते पश्यतो हराः
There are no kuviṃdā trees here, nor do you see any monkeys.
गणका नात्र विद्यंते चिंताविद्याविशारदाः
There are no accountants here, nor any skilled in the science of calculation and speculation.
सूपकारा न संत्यत्र रसकर्म विचक्षणाः 4.1.10.
There are no cooks here who are experts in the art of preparing flavors.
कीर्तिरुच्चैःश्रवा यस्य सर्वतो वाजिराजिषु
He whose fame is Uccaiḥśravas, the foremost among all horses everywhere.
ऐरावतो दंतिवरश्चतुर्दंतोत्र राजते
Airāvata, the best of elephants, with four tusks, shines here.
तरुरत्नंपारिजातः स्त्रीरत्नं सोर्वशी त्विह
The wish-fulfilling tree is Pārijāta; the supreme among women is Urvaśī here.
त्रयस्त्रिंशत्सुराणां या कोटिः श्रुति समीरिता
The number of the thirty-three gods is said to be a crore, according to the Vedas.
स्वर्गेष्विंद्रपदादन्यन्न विशिष्येत किंचन
In heaven, apart from the seat of Indra, nothing else surpasses it.
अश्वमेधसहस्रस्य लभ्यं विनिमयेन यत्
What can be obtained by the exchange of a thousand horse sacrifices—
अर्चिष्मती संयमिनी पुण्यवत्यमलावती
Arciṣmatī, Saṃyaminī, Puṇyavatī, and Amalāvatī—
अयमेव सहस्राक्षस्त्वयमेव दिवस्पतिः
This is indeed the thousand-eyed one; this is indeed the lord of heaven.
सप्तापि लोकपाला ये त एनं समुपासते
Even the seven guardians of the worlds worship him.
एतत्स्थैर्येण सर्वेषां लोकानां स्थैर्यमिष्यते 4.1.10.
By his steadfastness, the stability of all the worlds is desired.
दनुजा मनुजा दैत्यास्तपस्यंत्युग्रसंयमाः
The Dānavas, humans, and Daityas, with fierce austerity and discipline—
