He does not remain even for a moment when the time for his journey has not yet arrived.
Two thousand, two hundred and two yojanas,
When much time had passed, those in the east and north were greatly afflicted,
Those in the west and south had eyes closed in sleep.
Because of the absence of the sun by day, and of the moon by night,
How will the universe dissolve if the cosmic egg does not dissolve?
On earth, when svaha, svadha, and vashat are absent,
All rites, beginning with sacrifice, commence from sunrise.
All, including Citragupta, know time from the sun.
Because the sun's movement was halted, the three worlds were brought to a standstill.
On one side, there was darkness of night; on the other, the heat of day.
Thus, as the world became agitated, with gods, demons, humans, and serpents alike,
Then, seeing this, they all sought refuge in Brahmā.
Homage to the golden-formed, to Brahmā, who embodies the form of Brahman.
Whom even the gods do not comprehend, and whose mind is beyond grasp.
Whom yogis, steady through concentration, perceive in the space of the heart.
To the one beyond time, to the master of time, to the self-willed, the supreme person.
To Viṣṇu, who is of the nature of sattva, to the creator, who is of the nature of rajas.
Homage to the one whose form is intellect, to the threefold source of ego, homage.
Homage to the one whose form is the cosmic egg, who dwells within it, homage.
To the one of both transient and eternal forms, to the lord of existence and non-existence, homage.
The Vedas are your breath; this entire world is your own domain.
From your navel arose the sky; from your hair, the plants and trees.
You alone are everything; in you, O god, is everything—worshipper, praise, and the one to be praised, here, you alone.
Thus, having praised the Creator, the gods fell prostrate to the ground.
Rise up! I am pleased. Choose the highest boon.
Whoever, with faith and purity, praises me daily with this hymn,
I will grant all desires—sons, grandsons, cattle, and wealth.
Enjoyments of this world and the next, liberation, and that which is imperishable—
Therefore, with every effort, this supreme hymn should be recited.
