पुत्रपौत्रान्प्रदास्यामि स्वर्गं मोक्षं न संशयः वत्सराजः पांडवानां तोषयिष्यति यत्नतः
I shall grant sons and grandsons, and there is no doubt of heaven and liberation; the king of Vatsa will diligently please the sons of Pandu.
यस्य नाम्ना ततः ख्याता भविष्यामि कलौ युगे
By his name, I shall become renowned in the Kali age.
मत्प्रसादात्स राजा वै भवनोत्तापकारिणीम्
By my grace, that king will remove the affliction of the house.
तस्याश्चापि वधस्थानमट्टालजमिति स्थितम् 1.2.65.
And the place of her death is established as Aṭṭālaja.
अट्टालयाजग्रामे मामर्चयिष्यंति ये जनाः
Those people who worship me in the village of Aṭṭālaya,
वत्सेश्वरीं च ये देवीं पूजयिष्यंति मानवाः
And those men who worship the goddess Vatseśvarī,
इत्थमट्टालये वासो लोहाणे च भविष्यति
In this way, there will be residence in Aṭṭālaya and also in Lohāṇa.
मम लोकहितार्थाय लोहस्य च निशम्यताम्
For the welfare of the world and concerning Lohāṇa, let it be heard.
वृत्रासुर इवाजेयो लोकानुत्सादयिष्यति
Like Vṛtrāsura, he will be invincible and will destroy the worlds.
यत्र हंता तत्र ग्रामं लोहाटीति भविष्यति
Where the slayer is, there the village will be called Lohāṭa.
प्रस्थाने लोहवद्भावी करिष्ये तं नपुंसकम्
At the departure, I will render him impotent like iron.
ग्रामं चापि गयत्राडं तत्र ख्यातं भविष्यति
And the village called Gayatrāḍa will become famous there.
माघाष्टम्यां न शिष्यंति तस्य सर्वेऽप्युपद्रवाः
On the eighth day of Māgha, all his calamities will not remain.
तेषां पुंस्त्वं हरिष्यामि महारौद्राधितिष्ठति 1.2.65.
I will remove their manhood; the great and terrible one stands firm.
तस्मिन्कलियुगे घोरे रौद्रे रुद्रेऽतिनिर्घृणे
In that dreadful, fierce, and merciless Kali age,
भवत्सु च स्वर्गतेषु गयोऽपि सुमहत्तपः
And when they have gone to heaven, Gaya too will perform great austerity.
गयातीर्थं गतं तं च गयाध्वंसनकाम्यया
Having gone to the sacred place of Gaya, with the desire to destroy Gaya,
इत्थं श्रीमान्पीतवासा अवतीर्य बुधः प्रभुः
Thus, the illustrious, yellow-robed, and wise lord descended.
इति संक्षेपतः प्रोक्तं भविष्यं पांडवा मया
Thus, O Pāṇḍavas, I have briefly spoken to you of what is to come.
इदं तीर्थवरं मह्यं संसेव्यं सर्वदा प्रियम्
This foremost of sacred fords is always dear to me and should be revered.
भीमस्य चापि पौत्रेण दृढं संतोषिताऽस्मि च
And I am truly satisfied by the grandson of Bhīma as well.
व्रजध्वं चापि तीर्थानि यानि वो न कृतानि च
Go now to those sacred places which you have not yet visited.
आपृच्छे चापि वः सर्वान्यूयं कृष्णसमा मम
I take leave of you all, who are equal to Kṛṣṇa in my eyes.
पुनःपुनः प्रणम्यैनां नापश्यन्दीपवद्गताम् ।। 1.2.65.
Again and again, bowing to her, I do not see her as one who has departed like a lamp gone out.
ततस्ते बर्बरीकं च संस्थाप्यात्रैव निष्ठितम्
Then they established Barbarīka here, to remain in this very place.
उपप्लवे संगतेषु सर्वराजसु पांडवाः
When all the kings had gathered at Upaplava, the Pāṇḍavas—
योद्धुमागत्य संतस्थुः कुरुक्षेत्रं महारथाः
—came to fight and stood firm at Kurukṣetra, those great chariot-warriors.
ततो भीष्मेण प्रोक्तां च नरैः श्रुत्वा युधिष्ठिरः
Then, having heard what was spoken by Bhīṣma and by the men, Yudhiṣṭhira—
भीष्मेण विहिता कृष्ण रथातिरथवर्णना
—heard from Bhīṣma the description of the foremost chariot-warriors, as ordained by Kṛṣṇa.
ससैन्यान्पांडवानेतान्हन्यात्कालेन केन कः
Who, by fate, will destroy the Pāṇḍavas and their armies, and by whom, and when?
