So, wretch, quickly get out from this pool.
Otherwise, I will swiftly crush your head with brick fragments.
Then Bhīma, having deceived her, leapt out and came outside.
He fought with Pralamba, both skilled in battle, with their arms.
They struck each other with fists, blows from the heels, and knees.
Then Bhīma, being overpowered, rose up again and again.
Then Barbarika, with great strength, seized Bhima as if uprooting him.
Taking him, unconscious and repeatedly convulsing,

the Pandavas did not see this, for they were restrained by the goddess's power.
Thus, when that foremost Kuru hero was captured by that warrior of wondrous prowess,
then Barbarika went to the shore of the ocean.
"Ho! O tiger among Rakshasas, Barbarika of great might,
this one, journeying on pilgrimage, is accompanied by his brothers.
Therefore, O delight of the Kurus, he is always worthy of honor.
He fell at his feet, exclaiming, 'Alas! How terrible, how terrible!'
He kept saying again and again, 'Forgive me, forgive me.'
Seeing him thus lamenting, repeatedly fainting,

All else has been forgotten by us, bewildered by various sorrows.
This suffering of ours is due to the workings of fate at all times.
For every Kshatriya, anyone who stands on the wrong path is to be punished.
What can be said of fathers, mothers, friends, brothers, sons, and others?
But one whose grandson is such—a knower and protector of dharma—
Therefore, casting aside this grief, you ought to compose yourself.
Barbarika said: O father, you have made me guilty of a sin more despicable than the slaying of a Brahmin.
For all sins, indeed, the wise declare there is expiation.
By this very body, O father, I have caused you great suffering.
May I not become a sinner in other births as well.
For by a portion, the obstacle to atonement may be removed.
Even the ocean trembled; how then can I slay him?
