अर्च्यमानं सुवह्नीभिर्नागकन्याभिरैक्षत
He was seen being worshipped with excellent offerings by the nāga maidens.
केनेदं स्थापितं लिंगं सूर्यवैश्वानरप्रभम्
By whom was this liṅga, radiant like the sun and fire, established here?
इति वीरवचः श्रुत्वा बृहत्कटिपयोधरा
Hearing these words of the hero, the one with broad hips and large breasts,
सर्वपन्नगराजेन शेषेण सुमहात्मना
By the king of all serpents, Śeṣa, of great soul,
दर्शनात्स्पर्शनाद्ध्यानादर्चनात्सर्वसिद्धिदम्
By seeing, touching, meditating upon, and worshipping it, all attainments are granted.
एलापत्रेण विहितो नागानां तत्र प्राप्तये 1.2.63.
It was established by Elāpatra for the nāgas to obtain it there.
कर्कोटकेन नागेन कृतोऽयं तत्र प्राप्तये
This was made by the nāga Karkoṭaka for their attainment there.
ऐरावतेन विहितो नागानां गमनाय च
It was established by Airāvata for the nāgas to come there.
गुप्तक्षेत्रे सिद्धलिंगं याति शक्तिगुहाऽऽकृतः
In the protected field, the siddha-liṅga goes to the cave of Śakti, having been made.
इतीदं वर्णितं वीर विज्ञप्तिः श्रूयतां मम अधुनैव तथैकाकी समायातोऽत्र नो वद
Thus this has been described, O hero; hear my message now. Having come here alone, tell us.
वयं च सर्वास्ते दास्यस्त्वां पतिं प्रवृणीमहे
We all choose you as our husband and will serve you.
बर्बरीक इति ख्यातस्तं दैत्यं हंतुमागतः
He is known as Barbarīka, who has come to slay that demon.
स च दैत्यो हतः पापः पुनर्यास्ये महीतलम्
That wicked demon, once slain, will again descend to the earth.
ब्रह्मचारिव्रतं यस्मादहं सततमास्थितः
Because I have always upheld the vow of celibacy,
ऊर्ध्वमाचक्रमे वीरः कातरं ताभिरीक्षितः
The valiant one ascended upwards, watched by those fearful women.
प्रहर्षेणैव पूर्वस्या विजयं ददृशे दिशः 1.2.63.
With great joy, he beheld the victory of the eastern direction.
कांत्या सूर्यसमाभास ऊर्ध्वमाचक्रमे क्षणात्
Radiant as the sun in brilliance, he ascended upwards in an instant.
जगुर्गंधर्वमुख्याश्च ननृतुश्चाप्सरोगणाः
The foremost Gandharvas sang, and the hosts of Apsaras danced.
तव प्रसादाद्वीरेश सिद्धिः प्राप्ता मयातुला
O lord of heroes, by your grace I have attained incomparable success.
अत एव हि साधृनां संगमिच्छंति साधवः
Therefore, indeed, the virtuous desire to associate with the virtuous.
त्वं च होमस्थितं भस्म सिंदूरसदृशप्रभम्
And you, standing at the sacrifice, are like ashes shining with the brilliance of vermilion.
अक्षय्यमेतत्संग्रामे प्रथमं ते प्रमुंचतः
This, which you first released in battle, is imperishable.
एवं सुखेन विजयः शत्रूणां ते भविष्यति
Thus, victory over your enemies will come to you with ease.
साकांक्षमुपकुर्याद्यः साधुत्वे तस्य को गुणः
If someone acts with expectation, what virtue is there in his goodness?
तद्देहि भस्म चान्यस्मै केनाप्यर्थो न मेऽण्वपि
Therefore, give the ashes to another; I have not the slightest need for anything.
ततो भूमिस्थितं भस्म प्राप्स्यंति यदि कौरवाः ।। 1.2.63.
Then, if the Kauravas obtain the ashes lying on the earth,
महाननर्थो भविता पांडवानां ततः स्फुटम्
A great calamity will surely befall the Pandavas as a result.
देवीभिः सहिता देवाः संमान्य विजयं च ते
The gods, together with the goddesses, honored you and your victory.
एवं स विजयो विप्रः सिद्धिं लेभे सुदुर्लभाम्
Thus, the Brahmin attained a victory and a success that is exceedingly rare.
एवं तत्र स्थिते तीरे देव्याराधनतत्परे
Thus, while he remained there on the bank, devoted to worshipping the goddess,
