यस्याः प्रणश्यते पुष्पं गर्भो वा पतते यदि धारयेत इमां विद्यामेभिर्दोषैर्न लिप्यते
If her flower withers or her embryo falls, let her hold this knowledge; by these faults she is not stained.
रणे राजकुले द्यूते नित्यं तस्य जयो भवेत्
In battle, in the royal court, in gambling, he always attains victory.
गुल्मशूलाक्षिरोगाणां नित्यं नाशकरी तथा
It always destroys diseases of tumors, colic, and eye disorders.
तद्यथा ।। हन २ कालि सर २ कालि सर २ गौरि धम २ गौरि धम २ विद्ये आले ताले माले गंधे वधे पच २ विद्ये नाशय पापं हन् दुःस्वप्नं विनाशय कष्टनाशिनि रजनि संध्ये दुंदुभिनादे मानसवेगे शंखिनि चक्रिणि वज्रिणि शूलिनि अपमृत्युविनाशिनि विश्वेश्वरि द्रविडि द्राविडि केशवदयिते पशुपतिमहिते दुर्द्दमदमिनि शर्वरि किराति मातंगि ॐह्राँह्रँह्रँह्रँक्राँक्रँक्रँक्रँत्वर २ ये मां द्विषति प्रत्यक्षं परोक्षं वा सर्वान्दम २ मर्द्द २ तापय २ पातय २ शोषय २ उत्सादय २ ब्रह्माणि माहेश्वरि वाराहि विनायकि ऐंद्रि आग्नेयि चामुंडे वारुणि प्रचंडविद्योते इंदोपेंद्रभगिनि विजये शांतिस्वस्तिपुष्टिविवर्धिनि कामांकुशे कामदुधे सर्वकामवरप्रदे सर्वभूतेषु वासिनि प्रति विद्यां कुरु २ आकर्षिणि वेशिनि ज्वालामालिनि रमणि रामणि धरणि धारिणि मानोन्मानिनि रक्ष २ वायव्ये ज्वालामालिनि तापनि शोषणि नीलपताकिनि महागौरि महाश्रये महामयूरि आदित्यरश्मि जाह्नवि यमधंटे किणि २ चिंतामणि सुरभि सुरोत्पन्ने कामदुघे यथा मनीषितं कार्यं तन्मम सिध्यतु स्वाहा ॐस्वाहा ॐभूः स्वाहा ॐभुवः स्वाहा ॐस्वः स्वाहा ॐभूर्भुवःस्वःस्वाहा यत्रैवागतं पापं तत्रैव प्रतिगच्छतु स्वाहा ॐबले महाबले उासिद्धसाधिनि स्वाहा ।। 1.2.62.
Thus: hana hana kāli sara sara kāli sara sara gauri dhama dhama gauri dhama dhama vidye āle tāle māle gandhe vadhe paca paca vidye destroy sin, strike evil dreams, destroy suffering, O night, O twilight, O sound of drums, O rush of mind, O conch-bearer, O discus-holder, O thunderbolt-wielder, O trident-bearer, destroy untimely death, O universal goddess, O Dravidian, O Dravidian, O beloved of Keśava, O honored of Paśupati, O wild one, O night, O huntress, O Mātaṅgī, oṃ hrā hrā hrā hrā krā krā krā krā hurry hurry, whoever hates me, openly or secretly, crush them all, grind them, burn them, cast them down, dry them up, drive them out, O Brahmāṇi, Māheśvarī, Vārāhī, Vināyakī, Aindrī, Āgneyī, Cāmuṇḍā, Vāruṇī, fierce and shining, O Indra's sister, victorious, increasing peace, welfare, and nourishment, O desire-holder, wish-fulfiller, bestower of all desired boons, dwelling in all beings, establish knowledge everywhere, attract, adorn, blazing garlanded, delightful, charming, earth-holding, sustaining, proud, protect, O windward, blazing garlanded, burning, drying, bannered in blue, great Gauri, great refuge, great peacock, ray of the sun, Jahnavi, at the threshold of Yama, O jewel, O wish-fulfilling cow, O born of gods, O wish-fulfiller, as desired, let my work succeed, svāhā, oṃ svāhā, oṃ bhūḥ svāhā, oṃ bhuvaḥ svāhā, oṃ svaḥ svāhā, oṃ bhūrbhuvaḥsvaḥ svāhā, wherever sin has arrived, let it return there itself, svāhā, oṃ strong one, oṃ mighty one, oṃ accomplished and fulfilling, svāhā.
इतीमां साधयामास वैष्णवीमपरा जिताम्
Thus he accomplished this, conquering the supreme Vaiṣṇavī.
य इमां पठते नित्यं साधनेन विनापि च
Whoever recites this daily, even without ritual practice,
जुह्वतो मंत्रमुख्यैश्च बलातिबलसंज्ञकैः
While offering oblations with chief mantras called 'strength' and 'super-strength',
यामे तु प्रथमे याते काचिन्नारी समाययौ
As the first watch of the night passed, a certain woman appeared.
दारुणाक्षी शुक्लदन्ती भयस्यापि भयंकरी
With fierce eyes and white teeth, she was terrifying even to fear itself.
तां दृष्ट्वा चुक्षुभे सद्यो विजयो भीतिमानिव
Seeing her, Vijaya was immediately disturbed, as if fearful.
ततः कण्ठं समाश्लिष्य तस्या मतिमतां वरः
Then the best among the wise embraced her neck.
तं दृष्ट्वा विस्मिता सा च यावन्मुंचति कर्तिकाम्
Seeing him, she was astonished, and until she released Kartikeya,
पीड्यमाने च बलिना कंठे तस्या मुहुर्मुहुः
As she was repeatedly pressed by the strong one at her neck,
क्षणं रावांस्ततो मुक्त्वा त्राहि मुञ्चेति वक्त्यणु
For a moment she cried out, then released, saying, 'Protect, let go!'
शरणं ते प्रपन्नास्मि दासी कर्मकरी तव
I have taken refuge in you; I am your servant, your worker.
काशीश्मशाननिलयां देवदानवदर्पहाम् 1.2.63.
Dwelling in Kāśī's cremation ground, she crushes the pride of gods and demons.
ततस्तपश्चरिष्यामि सर्वभूताभयप्रदा
Then I shall perform austerities, granting fearlessness to all beings.
यद्येतद्व्यत्ययं कुर्यां भस्मीभूयां ततः क्षणम्
If I commit this transgression, let me be reduced to ashes in that instant.
मुमोच सापि संहृष्टा कृच्छ्रा- न्मुक्ता ययौ वनम्
She too, delighted, was released from her hardships and went to the forest.
ततो मध्यमरात्रौ च गर्जितं श्रूयते महत्
Then, at midnight, a great roaring sound was heard.
ददृशे च ततः शैलः शतशृंगोऽतिविस्तरः
After that, a mountain was seen, vast and with a hundred peaks.
नानानिर्झर संघोषं ववृषे शोणितं वहु
It poured forth much blood, resounding with the noise of many waterfalls.
पर्वतो द्विगुणो भूत्वा पर्वतं सहसाप्लुतः
The mountain, having doubled in size, suddenly leapt upon another mountain.
तदा विशीर्णः सोऽभूच्च पर्वतो भूमिमंडले
Then that mountain was shattered and fell upon the surface of the earth.
वक्त्रैर्मुंचन्महाज्वालां रेपलेन्द्रोऽभ्यधावत
Repalendra rushed forward, emitting great flames from his mouths.
विधाय तादृशं रूपं नर्दन्तं चाप्यधावत 1.2.63.
Assuming such a form, roaring, he too charged ahead.
युयुधाते बाणजालैर्यथा प्रावृषि तोयदौ
They fought with showers of arrows, like rainclouds in the rainy season.
पर्वताविव सत्पक्षौ चिरं युयुधतुः स्थिरम्
Like two mountains with strong wings, they fought steadily for a long time.
भूमौ प्रधर्षयामास प्रसृतं च मुमोच ह
He struck down his opponent to the ground and released his force.
तद्दूरे रेपलेन्द्राख्यं ग्राममद्यापि वर्तते
At a distance, the village called Repalendra still exists today.
