एवमुक्त्वा मुमोचैनां मुक्ता चाह प्रणम्य सा
Having spoken thus, he released her, and she, freed, bowed and spoke.
जानामि त्वां महाबाहो वीरं शक्तिमतां वरम्
I know you, O mighty-armed one, as a hero, the best among the powerful.
गुह्यकाधिपतिस्त्वं हि कालनाभ इति स्मृतः
You are indeed the lord of the Guhyakas, known as Kālanābha.
इति मां प्राह कामाख्या सर्वं तत्संस्मराम्यहम्
Thus Kāmākhyā spoke to me; I remember all of that.
समादिश प्राणनाथ कमादेशं करोमि ते घटोत्कच उवाच प्रच्छन्नस्तस्य घटते न विवाहः कथंचन ।। 1.2.60.
Command me, O lord of my life, I will carry out your wish. Ghaṭotkaca said: If it is concealed, that marriage will never take place.
मोर्वि यस्य हि वर्तंते पितरौ बांधवास्तथा
Morvi, whose parents and relatives are still living—
अयं कुलक्रमोऽस्माकं यद्भार्या पतिमुद्वहेत्
This is our family custom: that a wife should be given to a husband.
भगदत्तमथो नाथं ततो मौर्वी न्यवेदयत्
Then she informed her lord Bhagadatta about Maurvi.
ततः पृष्ठिं समारोप्य घटोत्कचमनिंदिता
Then, placing Ghaṭotkaca on her back, she was not reproached.
ततोऽसौ वासुदेवेन पांडवैश्चाभिनंदितः
Then he was honored by Vāsudeva and the Pāṇḍavas.
कुरूणां राक्षसानां च प्रोक्तोत्तमविधानतः
According to the highest custom of the Kurus and Rākṣasas,
कुंती च द्रौपदी चोभे मुमुदाते नितांततः
Both Kuntī and Draupadī rejoiced greatly.
ततो विवाहे निर्वृत्ते प्रतिपूज्य घटोत्कचम्
Then, when the marriage was completed, they honored Ghaṭotkaca.
मौर्व्याऽऽज्ञां शिरसा गृह्य हैडंबिर्भार्ययान्वितः
Accepting Maurvi's command upon his head, Haidamba departed with his wife.
ततो राक्षसयोषाभिर्वीरकांस्यैः प्रवर्धितः 1.2.60.
Then, raised by the heroic rākṣasa women with bronze-like strength,
ततो वनेषु चित्रेषु निम्नगापुलिनेषु च
afterwards, in the varied forests and on the banks of the rivers,
एवं विक्रीडतस्तस्य गर्भो जज्ञे महाद्युतेः
thus, as he played about, the embryo of that great-spirited one was formed.
स जातमात्रो ववृधे क्षणाद्यौवनगोऽभवत्
He, at the very moment of birth, grew and in an instant attained youth.
ऊर्ध्वकेशश्चोर्ध्वरोमा पितरौ प्रणतोऽब्रवीत्
With hair and body standing upright, he bowed to his parents and spoke:
भवतोर्हि प्रियं कृत्वा अनृणः स्यां सदा ह्यहम्
By doing what pleases you both, I shall always be free from debt.
अतः परं तु यच्छ्रेयं कर्तव्यं प्रोन्नतिप्रदम्
Therefore, whatever is best and brings the highest advancement must now be done.
बर्बराकारकेशत्वाद्बर्बरीकाभिधो भवान्
Because of your hair like a barbarian's, you shall be called Barbarīka.
श्रेयश्च ते यत्परमं दृढं च तत्कीर्त्यते बहुधा विप्र मुख्यैः
And your supreme and steadfast good, O best of Brahmins, is praised in many ways.
पुत्रेणानुगतो धीमान्वियता द्वारकां ययौ
Accompanied by his wise son, he went through the sky to Dvārakā.
आगच्छन्तं च तंदृष्ट्वा राक्षसं राक्षसानुगम्
Seeing him coming, the rākṣasa with his rākṣasa followers,
ग्रामे ग्रामे सुसंनद्धा नवलक्षमिता रथाः
in every village, well-armed chariots, counted at nine hundred thousand,
तान्गृहीतायुधान्दृष्ट्वा यदुवीरान्घटोत्कचः
seeing those Yadu heroes, armed and ready, Ghaṭotkaca,
राक्षसं वित्त मां वीरा भीमपुत्रं घटोत्कचम्
said, 'Know me, heroes, as the rākṣasa Ghaṭotkaca, son of Bhīma.'
निवेदयत मां प्राप्तं यादवेन्द्राय सात्मजम्
'Announce that I, along with my son, have arrived to the lord of the Yādavas.'
आह देवः सभास्थश्च शीघ्रमत्राव्रजत्वसौ
The lord, seated in the assembly, said, 'Let him come here quickly.'
