Then, in a great battle, I faced her, armed with sword and shield.
With my sword I cut down her arrows—she, the daughter of Mura.
Garuda, overcome by bewilderment, became unconscious.
Seeing my discus raised on that battlefield,
You ought not to kill her—protect her, O Supreme Person.
Her intelligence is unmatched, and her power in battle is supreme.
When this was said, I spoke these words to the goddess.
Then Kāmākhyā, embracing her devotee, spoke these words.
No one is able to defeat Mādhava in battle, for he is unconquerable in war.
Even Tryambaka, O daughter, is not able to overcome him—how then could another?
Withdraw from this battle; this is truly fitting for you.
Therefore, O blessed one, honor Janārdana as your father-in-law.
For one who is born, death is certain, and for one who has died, birth is certain.
The sages, the gods, the great asuras, those skilled in the three Vedas, men, and kings—
Indeed, your death at the hands of your father, O Janardana, is praiseworthy.
Thus was she addressed by Kamakhya, and she is Kamakatankata.
To her, along with blessings, I also spoke, O best of the Bharatas.
By me and by the goddess Earth, Bhagadatta was made king.
And dwelling here, you shall obtain that hero Hidimba as your husband.
She remained in that city, and I went to the abode of Shakra.
Thus, the suitable wife for Hidimba is present, O auspicious one.
But her appearance has not been described by me, for it is fitting for her father-in-law.
Again, one more condition was made—hear that, which was set by her.
Whoever is equal in strength to me, he shall become my husband.
For her victory I came, and those others, having been defeated, were slain by her.
Like the bright flame of fire, the multitude of moths was consumed.
Ghatotkacha, of great might, will certainly have her as his wife.
What use is milk if it is mixed with poison?
How, by mere daring, could Bhimasena, dearer than life, be won?
There are other women, O Janardana, in every land.
