स्तम्भतीर्थमिति ख्यातं सर्वतीर्थफलप्रदम्
It will be known as Stambhatīrtha, bestowing the fruit of all tīrthas.
यथोक्तं च फलं तस्य स्फुटं सर्वं भविष्यति 1.2.58.
And the result described for it will manifest fully and clearly.
महीसागरयात्रायां भवेत्तच्चावधारय
Know that this will occur during the journey to the meeting of earth and ocean.
अष्टाभिश्च प्रयागस्य तत्फलं प्रभविष्यति
Its fruit will be equal to that of eight Prayāgas.
अर्बुदस्य च यत्षड्भिस्तत्फलं च भविष्यति
And whatever is the fruit of six Arbudas, that too will be obtained.
कूपोदर्याश्चतुर्भिश्च तत्फलं प्रभविष्यति
And by four Kūpodarīs, that fruit will also be gained.
तत्फलं स्तंभतीर्थे वै शनिदर्शे भविष्यति
That fruit will be obtained at Stambhatīrtha during the sighting of Saturn.
ब्रह्मापि स्तंभतीर्थाय ददावर्घं समाहितः
Even Brahmā, with focused mind, offered arghya to Stambhatīrtha.
तीर्थानि च गुहं नाथं सम्मान्य विससर्ज सः
Having honored Guha, the Lord, he then released the tīrthas.
भूयश्चापि प्रसिद्ध्यर्थं प्रेषिताप्सरसोऽत्र मे
And again, for the sake of fame, I sent the Apsarases there.
यतो धर्मस्य सर्वस्य नानारूपैः प्रवर्ततः
For from this, all righteousness proceeds in its various forms.
तदिदं वर्णितं तुभ्यं सर्वतीर्थफलं महत् 1.2.58.
Thus, this great fruit of all sacred waters has been described to you.
विसृष्टो नारदाद्यैश्च द्वारकां प्रति जग्मिवान्
Having been dismissed by Nārada and the others, he went towards Dvārakā.
महन्माहात्म्यमतुलं कीर्तितं हर्षवर्धनम्
The immense and incomparable glory, which increases joy, has been proclaimed.
पुनर्यत्सिद्धलिंगस्य पूर्वं माहात्म्यकीर्तने
Again, in the earlier praise of the greatness of Siddhaliṅga—
विजयोनाम पुण्यात्मा साहाय्याच्चंडिलस्य च
There was a virtuous soul named Vijaya, who aided Caṇḍila.
कथं च प्राप्तवान्सिद्धिं सिद्धमातुः प्रसादतः
And how he attained success by the grace of Siddhamātṛ.
सतां चरित्रश्रवणे कौतुकं कस्य नो भवेत्
Who would not feel curiosity upon hearing the stories of the virtuous?
श्रुता द्वैपायनमुखात्कथां वक्ष्यामि चात्र वः
I will now tell you here the tale I heard from the mouth of Dvaipāyana.
धृतराष्ट्रमते पश्चादिंद्रप्रस्थं न्यवेशयन्
Later, following Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s counsel, he settled at Indraprastha.
उपविष्टाः सभामध्ये कथाश्चक्रुः पृथग्विधाः
Seated in the midst of the assembly, they engaged in various conversations.
क्रियमाणेऽथ तत्रागाद्भीमपुत्रो घटोत्कचः
Then, as this was happening, Ghaṭotkaca, the son of Bhīma, arrived.
उत्थाय सहसा पीठादालिलिंगुर्मुदा युताः 1.2.59.
Rising suddenly from his seat, he embraced them with joy.
साशिषं च ततो राज्ञा स्वोत्संग उपवेशितः
Then, with blessings from the king, he was seated upon his lap.
कालः क्वचित्सुखं राज्यं कुरुषे मातुलं तव
For a time, your uncle enjoyed the kingdom of the Kurus in happiness.
कश्चिद्देवेषु विप्रेषु गोषु साधुषु सर्वदा
Someone is always among the gods, the priests, the cows, and the righteous.
हेडंबस्य वनं सर्वं तस्य ये सैन्यराक्षसाः
The entire forest of Heḍaṃba, with its army of rākṣasas, belonged to him.
कच्चिन्नंदति ते माता भृशं नः प्रियकारिणी
Is your mother, who is so dear to us, not exceedingly happy?
इति पृष्टो धर्मराज्ञा स्मयन्हैडंबिरब्रवीत्
Thus questioned by the king of righteousness, smiling, Haidamba replied:
तद्राज्यं शासने स्थाप्य दुष्टान्निघ्नंश्चराम्यहम्
Having established that kingdom under my rule, I wander, destroying the wicked.
