Formerly, the eminent sage Nārada was cursed by Dakṣa.
Observing the paths of creation disturbed by Nārada.
And because he spoke slander and caused the agitation of others.
Though capable of refuting it, the sage considered it proper to accept thus.
Because, seeing the time of destruction, he promotes the age of Kali.
And though he wanders everywhere, his mind is not separate; and as for his supreme affection for me, listen to that as well.
Indeed, I always praise Nārada, the seer of the gods.
In whom, having heard of good conduct, the sense of 'I-ness' does not arise.
In whom there is no fear arising from aversion, anger, or restlessness.
Whether from desire or from greed, he does not speak otherwise than what is true.
One who knows the truth of the path of the Self, who is patient, capable, and has mastered the senses,
Who possesses brilliance, fame, intelligence, discernment, and humility,
Who has a gentle nature, pleasant appearance, eats well, conducts himself properly, and is virtuous,
Who does good steadfastly, and in whom no sin is found,
Who is always established in the dharma taught in the Vedas, Smṛtis, and Purāṇas,
Who is not attached to food and the like, is learned, not lazy, and a true twice-born,
Who has never faltered before in matters of wealth, anger, or desire,
Who is free from the fault of delusion and firmly devoted to the highest good,
Who is unattached to all associations, and is recognized as attached only to the Self,
Who never abandons the scriptures in anything, nor lives by asceticism alone,
Who has made effort, attained wisdom, yet is not satisfied, being absorbed in meditation,
Who does not rejoice in gaining wealth, nor is distressed when it is lacking,
Such a one, endowed with all virtues, skillful, pure, and fearless,
O King, I recite this hymn of Nārada always.
Anyone else, becoming pure, who recites this praise daily,
Having heard these qualities of Nārada, O King,
He became supremely pleased and acted according to those words.
Then he honored Nārada and gave abundant gifts.
Krishna went to Dvaravati, accompanied by his brothers, relatives, and kin.
In the same way, O Kauravya, you too should hear these virtues of Narada.
