Being pleased by you, dear one, I grant you this boon.
Your father will become a composer of sacred texts, honored by the brahmins.
And, dear one, I shall never abandon this place.
Having given permission to those brahmins, the Lord disappeared right there.
When the month of Ashvina arrives, on a Sunday, O virtuous one,
A man who bathes at Kotitirtha is freed from the sin of killing a Brahmin.
By anointing, with perfumes, incense, and offerings such as clarified butter and milk-rice,
He is released from all sins and attains the world of the Sun.
Endowed with all desired enjoyments, he dwells long in the world of the Sun.
On all Sundays, the sight of Jayaditya,
The beginningless and endless god, the unmanifest, the repository of radiance,
When a solar eclipse occurs, with mind composed at the Sun's well,
And giving gifts according to one's ability, standing before Jayaditya,
The merit gained at Kurukshetra, Prabhasa, and Pushkara—that merit a mortal attains by the grace of Jayaditya.
Why, O sage, is the fruit of Kotitirtha declared here?
Brahma, the grandsire, was brought directly from Brahmaloka.
Then, at midday, the blessed Creator went to bathe.
Seventy thousand from heaven and from the earth as well—
By this arrangement, O best of Kurus, even the lingas—
Then, having performed the consecration and worshipped the lingas, the lotus-born one—
Then, by the Blessed One, a lake was created here by the mind.
"What shall we do, O Lord? Give us your command, O Master."
One should remain in this lake, along with all the sacred bathing places, and here as well.
By bathing and worshipping the liṅgas of even ten million sacred places,
Whoever performs śrāddha here, and offers the ancestral cake according to the proper method,
Who, after bathing, worships the deity Koṭīśvara with undistracted mind,
All the sacred bathing places in the three worlds, and likewise the rivers beginning with the Gaṅgā,
Thus, having granted the boon, Brahmā the Lord went to the world of Brahmā.
On this bank, O Pārtha, in ancient times, by Brahmā and other foremost gods,
By eminent sages beginning with Vasiṣṭha, penance was performed here in ancient times, O sinless one.
