Thus I have briefly described the powers of the goddess at this holy place.
Whoever listens as I recount this will attain liberation from sin.
Long ago, in the Tretā age, O Pārtha, two were born in the land of Cauḍa.
Once, those two saw a single verse concerning ancient matters.
Padmabhū, the Lotus-born, spoke to Pulastya about the sacred places beginning with Prabhāsa: If one has not bathed there, what is the use of worshipping at such a tīrtha?
Having recited this verse, the two were repeatedly praised.
They slowly passed through forests and rivers.
They heard of the greatness of the hidden region and the confluence of earth and ocean.
Then, because the path was deserted, they were greatly afflicted by thirst and hunger.
After bowing to Siddhanātha, they proceeded with great patience.
Suddenly, they fell to the ground, their feet unsteady, and lost consciousness.
With some confidence restored, he said: 'Friend, have you not heard?'
Thus, by giving in such ways, the lord Someśvara, Hara, becomes compassionate.
While plundering, Prāleya departed a little distance away.
There, a voice was heard in the sky, preceded by a shower of flowers: 'The liṅga has arisen on the shore of the ocean; O virtuous one, remain here.'
When death was clearly near for me, it was said: 'One must go to Prabhāsa.'
He saw the liṅga risen, and thus he accepted it.
With their gaze, they then proceeded to Prabhāsa and the abode of Śiva.
Worshipping in the west, there is another lord of Prāleya.
One who beholds the two Somanātha liṅgas is freed from the sins of birth.
In the great city, the liṅga, beautiful and delightful, emerged from the netherworld.
Salutations to you, O Lord Rudra, whose radiance equals that of the sun.
Salutations to Śarva, who is of the form of the earth, ever auspicious.
And to the Lord of cattle, to Pāvaka of surpassing brilliance.
Homage to Mahādeva, to Soma, to the immortal one—salutations to you.
Thus, with these divine names, this hymn has been proclaimed.
Whoever, with devotion, always worships the liṅga of Hāṭakeśvara—
Or even remembers the Hāṭakeśvara liṅga with devotion—
Such sacred places are at the confluence of the earth and the ocean.
Thus ends the forty-eighth chapter, entitled 'The Account of Somanātha,' in the section on the glory of Stambhatīrtha, in the Kaumārikā section of the Māheśvara division, in the first book of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Śrī Skanda Mahāpurāṇa.
