ययाविष्टः समुज्जह्रे वेदान्कूर्मो जगद्गुरुः
Possessed by her, the Lord of the World, as the Tortoise, raised up the Vedas.
कोटिशो वेदमार्गस्य ध्वंसकान्पापकर्मिणः
Countless destroyers of the path of the Vedas, doers of evil deeds—
कोटिसंख्याभिरत्युग्रदेवीभिः संवृता च सा
She is surrounded by goddesses of exceedingly fierce power, numbering in the tens of millions.
पश्चिमायां तथा देवी संस्थिता भास्करा शुभा
In the western direction, likewise, the auspicious goddess Bhāskarā is established.
बिंबानि सर्वताराणां गच्छन्त्यायांति च द्रुतम्
The orbs of all the stars swiftly depart and return.
मयाराध्य समानीता कटाहादत्र संस्थिता
Having been worshipped by me, they were brought here and are established in the cauldron.
उत्तरस्यां तथा देवी संस्थिता योगनंदिनी
In the north as well, the goddess Yogānandinī is established.
दृष्ट्या दृष्टा निर्मलया योगमापुश्चतुःसनाः 1.2.47.
With pure vision, the Four Sanas beheld her and attained union.
सैव चांडकटाहान्मे समाराध्यात्र प्रापिता
That very goddess, having been duly worshipped, was brought here to my cauldron.
एवमेता महाशक्त्यश्चतस्रः संस्थिताः सदा
Thus, these four great powers are always established here.
ततश्च नव मे दुर्गाः समानीताः शृणुध्व ताः
Then, nine Durgās were brought to me; listen to their names.
त्रिपुरानाम परमा देवी स्थाणुर्यया पुरा
The supreme goddess named Tripurā, by whom the steadfast one was once conquered.
त्रिपुरेति ततस्तां तु प्रोक्तवान्भगवान्हरः
Therefore, the blessed Lord Hara called her Tripurā.
सा चाराध्य समानीता मयामरेश्वरपर्वतात्
She too, having been worshipped, was brought by me from Mount Amareśvara.
अपरा चापि कोलंबा महाशक्तिः सनातनी
Another is Kolambā, the eternal great power.
तस्मात्सा विष्णुना चोक्ता कोलंबेति स्तुतार्चिता
Therefore, she was praised and worshipped by Viṣṇu as Kolambā.
वाराहगिरिसंस्था मां समानीता च साब्रवीत्
Established on Varāhāgiri, she was brought to me and spoke thus.
तत्र कूपेन संस्थेयं रुद्राणीसंस्थितेन वै 1.2.47.
There, I should be established at the well, together with Rudrāṇī.
तस्माद्भवान्कूपवरं स्वयमत्र खन द्विज
Therefore, you yourself should dig a well here, O twice-born one.
कूपोऽखनि यत्र साक्षाद्रुद्राणी कूप आबभौ
Where the well was dug, Rudrāṇī herself appeared in the well.
पूजिता च ततो दैवी कोलंबा जगदीश्वरी
Then, the goddess Kolambā, the sovereign of the world, was worshipped there.
सदात्र चाहं स्थास्यामि प्रसादं प्रापिता त्वया
I shall always remain here, having been brought to favor by you.
पूजयिष्यंति मां मर्त्यास्तेषां छेत्स्यामि दुष्कृतम्
Those mortals who will worship me—I will cut away their misdeeds.
मेरोः समीपे रुद्राण्याः कूप एष स एव च
This is the well of Rudrāṇī near Mount Meru, and it is the very same.
प्रयागादपि गंगाया गयायाश्च विशेषतः
It surpasses even the Gaṅgā at Prayāga, and especially Gayā.
तदहं तव वाक्येन संस्थितात्र तपोधन
Therefore, by your words, O sage rich in austerity, I have remained here.
कुमारेशं पूजयित्वा पूजयिष्यंति ये च माम्
Those who worship Kumāreśa and also worship me,
प्रत्यब्रवं प्रमुदितः कोलंबां विश्वमातरम् ।। 1.2.47.
I joyfully spoke thus to Kolāmbā, the Mother of the Universe.
अत्रास्य माता त्वं देवि गुप्तक्षेत्रस्यकारणम्
Here, O goddess, you are his mother, the cause of the secret sacred place.
इदं च यत्सरः पुण्यं त्वन्नाम्ना ख्यातिमेष्यति
And this holy lake will become renowned by your name.
