Because, like a net, I cast a web among people.
Thus, I, surrounded by many grave sins committed, have arrived here.
Then, dragged by the messengers of Yama, I was made to recall my own actions.
Condemning myself in many ways, I spent years grazing on grass along the riverbanks.
If even for a single moment one is blessed, then that person is truly fortunate.
For in that single moment, what is not destroyed even by ages is preserved.
Somehow, released together with them, I was afflicted and tormented.
Afterwards, I became an insect on the auspicious banks of the Sarasvati.
As the chariot approached, I heard its loud and lofty sound.
Abandoning the path, I fled far away, practicing escape.
The sage, filled with compassion, saw me terrified.
By his influence, in my birth as a Brahmin, I encountered Vyasa.
Why do you perish thus, insect? Why do you fear death?
Thus addressed, endowed with intelligence and previous merit, I spoke to Vyasa.
This alone is my fear, revered one: I may attain a degraded state.
Among those wombs, frightened by the suffering of birth and the like, I am terrified, not otherwise.
Do not fear any wombs at all, from now and forever.
Thus addressed by Kaliya, I bowed to him, the teacher of the world.
Then, when I was born among crows, jackals, and similar creatures,
Afterwards, wandering through many kinds of wombs, I was afflicted.
From birth onward, I have been deprived of my parents.
Then, in my fifth year, Vyasa came to me and recited prayers.
The scriptures, the Vedas, and all the laws had not been studied; there, you and Nandabhadra comforted the great-minded one.
After that, in Bahudaka, I cast my life and bones into the great waters.
Then Vyasa told me, 'You will attain liberation.'
Thus, I have told you everything about my own life.
Ah, your conduct is truly wondrous, by which my heart is moved.
But I wish to perform the expiation for the duty you have spoken of.
Here, at this holy place, I remained for seven days without food.
Then, at the Barkarika holy site, you must burn me on the bank.
