This body, repeatedly afflicted by hunger, thirst, and the three humors, by cold, heat, wind, and water, and by each other—
May there be auspiciousness; may all faults depart into destruction from the entire world.
Whatever beings exist on earth, in heaven, in the atmosphere, or in the netherworlds—whatever groups of living creatures there are—
Whether ignorant or wise, may they all become peaceful, ever possessing tranquil minds.
Those who hear me as I praise, and others as well; those who see me uttering these words—
And even those who are mute or have impaired senses, who do not recite or see—
May suffering perish from the world, and may the multitude of faults such as greed depart from all beings.
By the physician of existence, skilled in removing all faults and the cause of liberation—
May all sin be destroyed—whatever arises in my mind or whatever I do by speech.
Just as when the name 'Vāsudeva' is spoken, or when the devotee of Viṣṇu chants—
This one is deluded, of little understanding, acting feebly; even though the mind is troubled by sense-objects, it does not become attached to me.
Therefore, be gracious, O Lord; show me, who am without refuge, your compassion, O Viṣṇu, for you are indeed supremely merciful.
Thus was the Lord praised by Aitareya, O Bhārata.
O Aitareya, I am pleased by your devotion and this hymn of yours.
This alone is the boon always desired by my devotee.
You are indeed liberated from worldly existence, for your devotion is of this kind.
And whoever, with this hymn, always seeks the well-being of the protected field—
By this very hymn, he will attain the destruction of sin.
Whoever, having fasted on the eleventh day, recites this before me—
For all fields, the protected field is most dear, just as—
Those beings for whom this is recited by the great-souled ones, having been indicated—
And you, dear child, should properly practice the Vedic duties with faith.
Worship with sacrifices, and having obtained a wife, bring joy to your mother.
The intellect, the mind, the beings, and also the faculties of knowledge and action—
What is to be known, what is to be considered, the sense of 'I', and even sound itself—
Conduct, renunciation, joy—these thirteen are the great forces.
Take hold of them through the yoga of meditation; thus you will attain liberation from me.
Just as gold is obtained by smelting with alkali, so too by discernment.
Liberation is not difficult here for one endowed with meditation on me.
Having uplifted seven generations, you will attain dissolution in me.
