सृजंतः पादपास्तत्र व्याप्य तिष्ठन्ति तद्वनम्॥ ४२.
The trees there spread out, producing, and stand throughout that forest.
सप्त स्त्रियस्तत्र वसंति सत्यस्त्ववाङ्मुख्यो भानुमतो भवंति ४२.
Seven women dwell there, truthful and foremost in speech, and they belong to Bhānumat.
सप्तैव गिरयश्चात्र धृतं यैर्भुवनत्रयम् ४२.
There are also seven mountains here, by which the three worlds are upheld.
तेजश्चाभयदानत्वमद्रोहः कौशलं तथा ४२.
Radiance, granting fearlessness, non-injury, and skill are also present.
इत्येते गिरयो ज्ञेयास्तस्मिन्विद्यावने स्थिताः ४२.
These mountains should be understood as established in that forest of knowledge.
निर्ममत्वं तपश्चात्र सन्तोषः सप्तमो ह्रदः ४२.
Non-possessiveness, austerity, contentment, and the seventh is the lake.
पुष्पादिपूजा द्वितीया तृतीया च प्रदक्षिणा ४२.
Worship with flowers and the like is the second, and circumambulation is the third.
षष्ठी ब्रह्मैकता प्रोक्ता सप्तमी सिद्धिरेव च ४२.
The sixth is declared as unity with Brahman, and the seventh is attainment.
ब्रह्मा धर्मो यमश्चाग्निरिंद्रो वरुण एव च॥ ४२.
Brahmā, Dharma, Yama, Agni, Indra, and also Varuṇa.
धनदश्च ध्रुवादीनां सप्तकानर्चयंत्यमी ४२.
And Dhanada; these seven are worshipped by the followers of Dhruva and others.
आत्मतृप्ता यतो यांति शांता दांताः परात्परम् ४२.
Those who are satisfied in themselves, peaceful, restrained, go beyond the highest.
सरितः केचिदाहुः स्म सप्तैव ज्ञानवित्तमाः ४२.
Some wise ones say there are seven rivers here as well.
ब्रह्मैव समिधस्तत्र ब्रह्माग्निर्ब्रह्म संस्तरः ४२.
Brahman itself is the fuel there; Brahman is the fire, Brahman is the altar.
एतदेवेदृशं सूक्ष्मं ब्रह्मचर्यं विदुर्बुधाः ४२.
The wise know this subtle brahmacarya to be just so.
एकः शास्ता न द्वितीयोऽस्ति शास्ता हृद्येव तिष्ठन्पुरुषं प्रशास्ति ४२.
There is one teacher, not a second; the teacher, abiding in the heart, instructs the person.
एको गुरुर्नास्ति तथा द्वितीयो हृदि स्थितस्तमहं नृ ब्रवीमि ४२.
There is one guru, not a second; abiding in the heart, I declare him to be the darkness-destroyer.
एको बंधुर्नास्ति ततो द्वितीयो हृदी स्थितं तमहमनुब्रवीमि ४२.
There is no other true friend but the one who dwells in the heart; him I declare to you.
ब्रह्मचर्यं च संसेव्यं गार्हस्थ्य श्रृणु यादृशम् ४२.
One should practice celibacy; now listen to the nature of household life.
मच्चित्ता सा सदा मातर्मम सर्वार्थसाधनी ४२.
O Mother, she whose mind is always fixed on me becomes the accomplisher of all my purposes.
मनो बुद्धिश्च सप्तैते दीप्यंते पावका मम ४२.
My mind and intellect, together with these seven, shine forth as my fires.
मंतव्यमथ बोद्धव्यं सप्तैताः समिधो मम ४२.
These seven—what is to be thought and what is to be understood—are my fuel-sticks.
एवंविधेन यज्ञेन यजाम्यस्मि तमीश्वरम् ४२.
With such a sacrifice as this, I worship that Lord.
न मे स्वभावेषु भवंति लेपास्तोयस्य बिंदोरिव पुष्करेषु ४२.
No stains adhere to my nature, just as water-drops do not cling to lotus leaves.
न सज्जते कर्मसु भोगजालं दिवीव सूर्यस्य मयूखजालम्॥ ४२.
Pleasures arising from actions do not attach to me, just as the rays of the sun do not cling to the sky.
एवंविधेन पुत्रेण मा मातर्दुःखिनी भव ४२.
With such a son, O Mother, do not be sorrowful.
इति पुत्रवचः श्रुत्वा विस्मिता इतराभवत् ४२.
Hearing her son's words, she became astonished.
लोकेषु ख्यातिमायाति ततो मे स्याद्यशः परम् ४२.
He attains fame among people, and thus my supreme renown is established.
प्रहृष्टस्तस्य तैर्वाक्यैर्विस्मितः प्रादुरास च ४२.
Delighted by those words, he appeared, filled with wonder.
जगदुद्भासयन्भासा सूर्यकोटिसमप्रभः ४२.
He shone forth, illuminating the world, radiant as ten million suns.
मूर्ध्नि बद्धांजलिं धीमानैतरेयोऽथ तुष्टुवे॥ ४२.
Then the wise son of Itara, with hands joined upon his head, praised him.
