एवमाद्यैर्नरः पापैरुत्क्रान्तैः समनंतरम् ४१.
A man, through such sins and others like them, after departing from the body, immediately—
तस्मात्त्रिविधमप्येतन्नारकीयं विवर्जयेत् ४१.
Therefore, one should avoid all three kinds of hellish acts.
नमस्कारः स्तुतिः पूजा नामसंकीर्तनं तथा ४१.
Salutation, praise, worship, and also the chanting of names—
संक्षेपाच्छिवपूजाया विधानं वक्तुमर्हसि ४१.
Briefly, you should speak the procedure for the worship of Shiva.
प्रातर्मध्याह्नसायाह्ने शंकरं सर्वदा भजेत् ४१.
One should always worship Shankara in the morning, midday, and evening.
आदौ स्नानं प्रकुर्वित भस्मस्नानमथापि वा ४१.
First, one should bathe, or alternatively perform a bath with sacred ash.
आविकं परिदध्याच्च ततो वासः सितं च वा ४१.
Then one should put on woolen clothing, or else white garments.
उत्तरीयं च संदध्याद्विना तन्निष्फलार्चनम् ४१.
One should also wear an upper garment; without it, the worship is fruitless.
पूजयेद्यो महादेवं प्रीतः पश्यति तं मुहुः ४१.
He who worships Mahadeva with devotion sees Him again and again.
प्रविश्य च प्रणम्येशं ततो गर्भगृहं विशेत् ४१.
Entering, bowing to the Lord, then one should enter the sanctum.
येन रुद्रायते भक्त्या कुरुते मार्जनक्रियाम् ४१.
With devotion to Rudra, one should perform the act of cleaning.
रुद्रभक्त्या च संतिष्ठेनमालिन्यं मार्जयेत्ततः ४१.
With devotion to Rudra, one should remain and then wipe away impurity.
गडुकान्पूरयेत्पश्चान्निर्मलेन जलेन वै ४१.
Afterwards, one should fill the water vessels with pure water.
निर्व्रणाः सौम्यरूपाश्च सर्वे चोदकपूरिताः ४१.
All the vessels, unblemished and pleasant in form, should be filled with water.
क्षालिताः पूरिता नीताः षडक्षरजपेन च ४१.
Washed, filled, and placed, along with the recitation of the six-syllable mantra.
अष्टादशापि चतुरस्ततोन्यूनं न कारयेत् ४१.
Even if there are eighteen or four vessels, one should not use fewer than that.
एवं सर्वं च तद्द्रव्यं वामतः संन्यसेद्भवात् ४१.
In this way, all those materials should be placed to the left of the altar.
सर्वेषां वाचका मन्त्राः कथ्यंतेऽतः परं क्रमात्॥ ४१.
Next, the mantras for all the deities are to be recited in order.
ॐगं गणपतये नमः ॐगं गुरुभ्यो नमः ॐकौं कुलदेव्यै नमः ॐमहाकालाय नमः ततः प्रविस्य लिंगाच्च किञ्चिद्दक्षिणतः शुचिः ४१.
Om, salutations to Ganapati; Om, salutations to the Gurus; Om, salutations to the family goddess; Om, salutations to Mahakala. Then, entering from the lingam, slightly to the south, one should be pure.
दर्भादिभिः परिवृतं मध्यपद्मार्कमंडलम् ४१.
Surround the central lotus and solar mandala with darbha grass and similar items.
तन्मध्ये विश्वरूपं च वामाद्यष्टादिशक्तिकम् ४१.
In the center, place the universal form along with the eight primary powers, beginning from the left.
वामांकगिरिजं देवं ध्यायेत्सिद्धैः स्तुतं मुहुः ४१.
Meditate upon the deity Girija seated on the left, repeatedly praised by the accomplished ones.
पानीयमक्षता दर्भा गंधपूष्पं ससर्पिषम् ४१.
Water, unbroken rice, darbha grass, fragrance, flowers, and clarified butter are to be used.
ततः श्रद्धार्द्रचित्तस्य स्नानं लिंगस्य चाचरेत् ४१.
Then, with a mind moist with faith, one should perform the bathing of the lingam.
अर्द्धेन स्नापयेत्पूर्वं कुर्याच्च मलघर्षणम् ४१.
First, bathe it with half the materials, and perform the rubbing away of impurities.
प्रणम्य च ततो भक्त्या स्नापयेन्मूलमंत्रतः इति द्वादशाक्षरो मूलमंत्रः॥ ४१.
After bowing with devotion, bathe it with the root mantra. Thus, the root mantra is twelve syllables.
वारिक्षरदधिक्षौद्रघृतेनेक्षुरसेन च ४१.
With water, curd, honey, ghee, and sugarcane juice,
गडुकैः स्नापयेत्सर्वैः स्नातं गन्धैर्विरूक्षयेत्॥ ४१.
Bathe it with all these, and after bathing, anoint it with fragrances.
विरूक्षितं ततः स्नाप्य श्रीखण्डेन विलेपयेत् ४१.
After anointing with fragrance, bathe it again and smear it with sandalwood paste.
आग्नेयपादे नैर्ऋतके वायव्ये ईशानपादे पूर्वपादे दक्षिणे पश्चिमे उत्तरे ॐअनैश्वर्याय नमः ॐपद्माय नमः ॐअर्कमण्डला नमः ॐवह्निमण्डला नमः ॐपरमप्रकृत्यै देव्यै नमः ४१.
At the southeast, southwest, northwest, northeast, east, south, west, north: Om, salutations to the lord of sovereignty; Om, salutations to the lotus; Om, salutations to the solar circle; Om, salutations to the fire circle; Om, salutations to the supreme nature, the goddess.
