भृत्यानां च परित्यागः साधुबंधुतपस्विनाम् ४१.
Abandonment of servants, good people, relatives, or ascetics.
शिवाश्रमतरूणां च पुष्पारामविनाशनम् ४१.
Destruction of flower gardens belonging to auspicious hermitages or sacred trees.
यज्ञारामतडागादिदारापत्यस्य विक्रयः ४१.
Selling of sacrificial grounds, ponds, wives, or children.
स्त्रीधनान्युपजीवंति स्त्रीभिरत्यंतनिर्जिताः ४१.
Those who live off women's wealth, being completely subdued by women.
ऋणानामप्रदानं च मिथ्याघृद्ध्युपजीवनम् ४१.
Failure to repay debts, and living by false greed.
विषमारणयंत्राणां प्रोयगो मूलकर्मणाम् ४१.
Use of deadly poisons, traps, or roots as means of killing.
जिह्वाकामोपभो गार्थं यस्यारंभः स्वकर्मसु ४१.
One whose actions are begun solely for the sake of tongue's pleasure or enjoyment.
व्रात्यता व्रतसंत्यागः सर्वाहारनिषेवणम् ४१.
Becoming an outcaste, abandoning vows, and consuming all types of food indiscriminately.
देवाग्निगुरुसाधूनां निंदा गोब्राह्मणस्य च ४१.
Reviling the gods, fire, teachers, holy men, cows, or Brahmins.
उत्सन्नपतृदेवेज्याः स्वकर्मत्यागिनश्च ये ४१.
Those whose ancestral rites and worship of gods have ceased, and who have abandoned their own duties.
पर्वकाले दिवा चाप्सु वियोनौ पशुयोनिषु ४१.
At the time of sacred observances, during the day, in water, in the sky, or among animal species—
स्त्रीपुत्रमित्रसुहृदामाशाच्छेदकराश्च ये ४१.
—those who destroy the hopes of women, children, friends, and well-wishers—
भेत्ता तडागकूपानां संक्रमाणांरसस्य च ४१.
—those who break ponds, wells, bridges, or steal juice—
इत्येतैश्च नराः पापैरुपपातकिनः स्मृताः ४१.
—these, and others like them, are considered minor sinners by their wicked deeds.
ये गोब्राह्मणकन्यानां स्वामिमित्रतपस्विनाम् ४१.
Those who oppress cows, Brahmins, maidens, masters, friends, or ascetics—
परश्रियाभितप्यंते हीनां सवंति ये स्त्रियाम् ४१.
—those who covet another’s wealth, or who lie with a woman of lower status—
गोष्ठाग्निजलरथ्यासु तरुच्छायानगेषु च ४१.
—in cowsheds, near fire, water, on roads, under trees, or in temples—
गीतवाद्यरता नित्या मत्ताः किलकिलापराः ४१.
—those who are always devoted to singing and music, who are constantly intoxicated and noisy—
कूटशासनकर्तारः कूटयुद्धकराश्च ये ४१.
—those who issue false judgments, or engage in deceitful warfare—
मिथ्याप्रसादितो वाक्यमाकर्णयति यः शनैः ४१.
—one who, having been falsely praised, quietly listens to such words—
यो भार्यापुत्रमित्राणि बालवृद्धकृशातुरान् ४१.
—whoever abandons wife, children, friends, the young, the old, the weak, or the sick—
यः स्वयं मृष्टमश्नाति विप्रायान्यत्प्रयच्छति ४१.
—who eats the best food himself and gives something else to the Brahmin—
नियमान्स्वयमादाय ये त्यजंत्यजितेंद्रियाः ४१.
—those who take vows themselves but, lacking self-control, abandon them—
दुर्बलान्नैव पुष्णंति प्रणष्टार्था द्विषंति च ४१.
—who do not support the weak, and hate those who have lost their possessions—
तेषा मदत्त्वा चाश्रंति चिकित्संति न रोगिणः ४१.
—they do not give medicine, nor do they treat the sick, unless they are paid by me—
हीनवर्णात्मवृत्तिश्च वैद्यो धर्मध्वजी च यः ४१.
—the physician of low character or livelihood, and the one who is only outwardly righteous—
सदा दण्डरुचिर्यश्च यो वा दण्डरुचिर्न हि ४१.
—who is always fond of punishment, or who is not fond of punishment—
यस्य राज्ञः प्रजा राष्ट्रे पच्यते नरकेषु सः ४१.
—the king whose subjects in his realm are tormented, he himself is cooked in hell.
आलस्योपहतो राजा व्यसनी नरकं व्रजेत् ४१.
A king afflicted by indolence and vice goes to hell.
यद्वातद्वा परद्रव्यमपि सर्षपमात्रकम् ४१.
Even the smallest amount of another's property, as little as a mustard seed, whether taken by force or deceit—
