सदाशिवं च वंदे तौ भवेतां मंगलाय मे ४१.
I bow to Sadashiva and those two; may they bring auspiciousness to me—
कैलासे ददृशुः स्थाणुं वदंतं गिरिजां प्रति ४१.
On Kailasa, they saw Sthanu speaking to Girija—
सदा तपस्यां चरामि प्रीत्यर्थं हरिवेधसोः ४१.
I always practice austerity for the sake of pleasing Hari and Brahma—
यद्वा देवा न संयांति पारं ये च परस्परम् ४१.
Or, the gods do not reach the limit, nor do those who dispute among themselves—
उत्तमाधममध्यत्वममीषां वर्णयंति ये ४१.
Those who describe the highest, lowest, and middle status among them—
एवं ते निश्चियामासुर्नैमिषेया स्तपस्विनः ४१.
Thus, the ascetics of Naimisha resolved—
जापकानां सहस्राणि वैष्णवानां तथैव च ४१.
Thousands of reciters, and likewise Vaishnavas—
तस्माद्यस्य मनोरागो यस्मिन्देवे भवेत्स्फुटम् ४१.
Therefore, whose mind's affection is clearly directed toward whichever deity—
कानि पापानि विप्रेंद्र यैस्तु संमूढचेतसः ४१.
What are the sins, O best of Brahmins, by which those with deluded minds—
अधर्मभेदा विज्ञेयाश्चित्तवृत्तिप्रभेदतः ४१.
The varieties of unrighteousness are to be understood by the diversity of mental states—
तत्र ये पापनिचयाः स्थूला नरकहेतवः ४१.
There, those gross clusters of sins are causes of hell—
तु. महाभारत अनुशासन १३.२ परस्त्रीद्रव्यसंकल्पश्चेतसानिष्टचिंतनम् ४१.
Thinking of another's wife or property, and contemplating evil in the mind—
अनिबद्धप्रलापित्वमसत्यं चाप्रियं च यत् ४१.
Unrestrained prattling, falsehood, and whatever is unpleasant—
अभक्ष्यभक्षणं हिंसा मिथ्या कामस्य सेवनम् ४१.
Eating what is forbidden, violence, indulging in false desire—
इत्येतद्द्वादशविधं कर्म प्रोक्तं त्रिसंभवम् ४१.
Thus, this twelvefold action, arising from three sources, has been declared.
ये द्विषंति महादेवं संसारार्णवतारकम् ४१.
Those who hate Mahadeva, the one who leads across the ocean of worldly existence,
महांति पातकान्याहुर्निरंतरफलानि षट् ४१.
Are said to commit great sins, six in number, whose results are unceasing.
यथेष्टचेष्टा निःशंकाः संतिष्ठंति रमंति च ४१.
They act as they wish, without hesitation, standing firm and delighting.
शिवाचारं न मन्यंते शिवभक्तान्द्विषंति षट् ४१.
They do not regard the conduct of Shiva, and they hate the devotees of Shiva, six in number.
अरिभिः परिभूतं वा यस्त्यजति स पापकृत् ४१.
He who abandons one insulted by enemies is a doer of evil.
इत्येतत्पातकं ज्ञेयं गुरुनिंदासमं महत् ४१.
This sin should be understood as equal to the great offense of reviling the teacher.
महापातकिनस्त्वेते तत्संसर्गी च पंचमः ४१.
These are the great sinners, and the one who associates with them is the fifth.
मर्मांतिकं महादोषं ब्रह्मघ्नः स प्रकीर्तितः ४१.
The one who inflicts mortal harm is called a slayer of Brahman, a great fault.
पश्चान्नास्तीति यो ब्रूयात्स च वै ब्रह्महा स्मृतः ४१.
He who later says, 'It is not so,' is also regarded as a slayer of Brahman.
उदासीनः सभामध्ये ब्रह्महा स प्रकीर्तितः ४१.
He who remains indifferent in the midst of an assembly is called a slayer of Brahman.
विरुद्धं गुरुभिः सार्धं ब्रह्मघ्नः स प्रकीर्तितः ४१.
He who opposes together with teachers is called a slayer of Brahman.
यः समाचरते विघ्नं तमाहुर्ब्रह्मगातकम् ४१.
He who acts to obstruct is called a Brahman-killer.
उद्वेगजननः क्रूरः स च वै ब्रह्महा स्मृतः ४१.
One who causes distress, cruel in nature, is also regarded as a slayer of Brahman.
यः समाचरते विघ्नं तमाहुर्ब्रह्मघातकम् ४१.
He who acts to obstruct is called a Brahman-slayer.
पापीयान्पिशुनः क्रूरस्तमाहुर्ब्रह्मघातकम् ४१.
One who is more sinful, slanderous, and cruel is called a Brahman-slayer.
