शिरस्तु तदवस्थं हि समग्रं तत्र संस्थितम् ३९.
Her head remained there intact, in that very state.
शेषकायप्रपातेन महीसागरसंगमे ३९.
With the fall of the rest of her body, at the meeting of earth and ocean,
शकश्रृंगस्य वै राज्ञः सिंहलेष्वभवत्सुता ३९.
A daughter was born to King Śakaśṛṅga among the Siṃhalas.
दिव्यनारी शुभाकारा शेषकाये बभौ शुभा ३९.
A divine woman of auspicious form shone beautifully in the remaining body.
पुत्री जाता प्रमोदेन स्वजनानंदवर्धिनी ३९.
A daughter was born, increasing the joy of her own people with delight.
विस्मयं समनुप्राप्ताः सर्वे ते राजपूरुषाः ३९.
All those royal attendants were filled with wonder.
खिन्नाः प्रकृतयः सर्वास्तादृग्रूपविलोकनात् ३९.
All the subjects were distressed upon seeing such a form.
ततः सा यौवनं प्राप्ता साक्षाद्देवसुतोपमा ३९.
Then she attained youth, resembling the very daughter of the gods.
तत्तीर्थस्य प्रभावेण मातृपित्रोर्निवेदितम् ३९.
By the power of that sacred place, what was offered by the mother and father—
मा शोकं कुरु मे मातः पूर्वजन्मार्जितं फलम् ३९.
Do not grieve, my mother; this is the result earned in a previous birth.
पूर्वजन्मोद्भवः कायस्यस्या यत्रापतत्तथा ३९.
Wherever this body arose from a previous birth, there it has fallen likewise.
अहं तात गमिष्यामि महीसागरसंगमम् ३९.
Father, I will go to the confluence of the earth and the ocean.
ततः पित्रा प्रतिज्ञातं शतश्रृंगेण तत्तथा ३९.
Then, as promised by her father Shatashringa, so it was done.
स्तंभतीर्थं ततः साऽपि प्राप्य पोतार्यसंयुता ३९.
Then she too reached Stambha Tirtha, accompanied by boatmen.
जालिगुल्मांतरेऽन्विष्य ततो दृष्टं निजं शिरः ३९.
Searching among the reeds and bushes, she then saw her own head.
दग्ध्वा संगमसांनिध्ये क्षिप्तान्यस्थीनि संगमे ३९.
Burning it in the presence of the confluence, she cast the remaining bones into the meeting of the waters.
न तादृग्देवकन्यानां न तादृङनागयोषिताम् ३९.
There was no one among the daughters of the gods, nor among the women of the serpents, like her.
सुरासुरनराः सर्वे तस्या रूपेण मोहिताः ३९.
All the gods, demons, and men were enchanted by her form.
कष्टं तया मुदा तत्र प्रारब्धं दुश्चरं तपः ३९.
Alas, with joy she undertook there an arduous and difficult penance.
प्रत्यक्षतां गतस्तस्यै वरदोऽस्मीति चाब्रवीत् ३९.
He appeared before her and said, 'I am the giver of boons.'
यदि तुष्टोऽसि देवेश यदि देयो वरो मम ३९.
'If you are pleased, Lord of the gods, if a boon is to be given to me—'
एवमस्त्विति शर्वेण प्रोक्ते हृष्टा कुमारिका ३९.
When Shiva said, 'So be it,' the maiden was delighted.
बर्करेशः शिवस्तत्र तया संस्थापितस्तदा ३९.
There, by her, Shiva as Barkaresha was established at that time.
स्वस्तिकोनाम नागेंद्रः कुमारीं द्रष्टुमागतः ३९.
Svastika by name, the lord of serpents, came there to see the maiden.
ईशाने बर्करेशस्य कूपोऽभूत्स्वस्तिकाभिधः ३९.
In the northeast of Barkaresha, a well arose called Svastika.
दृष्ट्वा च स्थापितं लिंगं शिवस्तुष्टो वरं ददौ ३९.
Seeing the established linga, Shiva, being pleased, granted a boon.
क्षिप्यंतेब्धौ तथा स्थीनि तेषां स्यादक्षया गतिः ३९.
When these are cast into the ocean, their course becomes inexhaustible.
राजानः सर्वसंपूर्णाः सप्रतापा भवंति ते ३९.
Kings endowed with all prosperity and might arise from them.
स्नात्वार्णवमहीतोये तस्य स्यान्मनसेप्सितम् ३९.
By bathing in the ocean or in sacred waters, one attains the desire of the mind.
कूपे स्नानं नरः कृत्वा संतर्प्य च पितॄन्निजान् ३९.
