कुमारेशस्य माहात्म्यं कीर्तयेद्यस्तदग्रतः ३४.
Whoever recites the greatness of Kumāreśa before him—
अस्य लिंगस्य माहात्म्यं श्राद्धकाले तु यः पठेत् ३४.
Whoever reads the greatness of this liṅga at the time of śrāddha—
अस्य लिंगस्य माहात्म्यं गुर्विणीं श्रावयेद्यदि ३४.
Or if one makes a pregnant woman hear the greatness of this liṅga—
एतत्पुण्यं पापहरं धर्म्यं चाह्लादकारकम् ३४.
This merit destroys sin, is righteous, and brings delight.
कुमारेण स्थापितोऽत्र कुमारेशस्ततः सुराः ३५.
Here Kumāreśa was established by Kumāra; therefore, the gods—
किंचिद्विज्ञापयष्यामो वयं त्वां श्रृणु तत्त्वतः ३५.
We wish to inform you of something; listen to us in truth.
जयंति ये रणे शत्रूंस्तैः कार्यः स्तंभचिह्नकः ३५.
Those who conquer enemies in battle should erect a victory pillar.
नक्षिपाम वयं यावत्त्मनुज्ञातुमर्हसि ३५.
We wish to set it up; you ought to grant us permission.
तस्य स्तंभाग्रतसतं च संस्थापय शिवात्मज ३५.
Place it before the pillar, O son of Śiva, for him.
ततो हृष्टाः सुरगणाः शक्राद्याः स्तंभमुत्तमम् ३५.
Then the delighted hosts of gods, led by Indra, set up the excellent pillar.
परितः स्थंडिलं दिक्षु सर्वरत्नमयं तु ते ३५.
All around, in the directions, they made a platform of all kinds of jewels for you.
मातरो मंगलान्यस्य जगुः स्कन्दस्य नंदिताः ३५.
The mothers, delighted with Skanda, sang auspicious songs for him.
पेतुः खात्पुष्पवर्षाणि देववाद्यानि सस्वनुः ३५.
From the sky, showers of flowers fell, and the divine instruments resounded.
स्तम्भेश्वरस्ततो देवः स्थापितस्त्र्यक्षसूनुना ३५.
Then the god Stambheśvara was established there by the son of the three-eyed one.
हरिहरादित्युक्तैस्तैः सेन्द्रैर्मुनिगणैरपि ३५.
By those addressed—Hari, Hara, Āditya, along with Indra and also the groups of sages.
गुहेन निर्मितः कूपो गंगा तत्र तलोद्भवा ३५.
A well was constructed there by Guha, and the Gaṅgā arose at its base.
कूपे स्नानं नरः कृत्वा भक्त्या यः पांडुनंदन ३५.
O delight of the Pāṇḍus, whoever bathes in the well with devotion—
स्तंभेश्वरं ततो देवं गन्धपुष्पैः प्रपूजयेत् ३५.
—should then worship the god Stambheśvara with fragrant flowers.
पौर्णमास्याममावास्यां महीसागरसंगमे ३५.
On the full moon and new moon, at the confluence of earth and ocean,
पितरस्तस्य तृप्यंति तृप्ता यच्छंति चाशिषः ३५.
His ancestors are satisfied and, being pleased, bestow blessings.
इत्याह भगवान्रुद्रः स्कन्दस्य प्रीतये पुरा ३५.
Thus, long ago, the blessed Rudra spoke for the pleasure of Skanda.
प्रणेमुर्देवताः सर्वे साधुसाध्विति ते जगुः॥ ३५.
All the deities bowed and sang, 'Well done, well done!'
इति स्कांदेमहापुराण एकाशीतिसाहस्र्यां संहितायां प्रथमे माहेश्वरखण्डे कौमारिकाखण्डे स्तंभेश्वरमाहात्म्यवर्णन नाम पंचत्रिंशोऽध्यायः
Thus ends the thirty-fifth chapter named 'The Greatness of Stambheśvara,' in the Kaumārikā section of the first Māheśvara book of the eighty-one-thousand-verse Skanda Mahāpurāṇa.
एवं दृष्ट्वा क्षितौ तानि लिंगानि हरसूनुना ३६.
In this way, seeing those liṅgas on the earth, by the son of Hara—
अहो धन्यः कुमारोऽयं महीसागरसंगमे ३६.
—'Ah, blessed is this Kumāra at the confluence of earth and ocean!'
वयमप्यत्र शुद्ध्यर्थं तोषार्थं स्कन्दरुद्रयोः ३६.
We too, for the sake of purification and to please Skanda and Rudra—
अथवा कोटिशो देवा मुनयो नैव संख्यया ३६.
Or, even if there are crores of gods and sages, they cannot be counted.
पूजा तेषां कतं भावि बहुत्वाच्चात्र पठ्यते ३६.
The worship of them, whatever is to be done, is recited here because of their multitude.
तस्य सीदति तद्राष्ट्रं दुर्भिक्षव्याधितस्करैः ३६.
His kingdom declines, afflicted by famine, disease, and thieves.
इति कृत्वा मतिं सर्वे प्राप्यानुज्ञां महेश्वरात् ३६.
Having thus resolved, all, obtaining permission from Maheśvara—
