All this is easily accomplished; let the war drum be struck firmly.
The drum, beaten fiercely, made the world tremble.
From the rivers, from the oceans, from the netherworlds, and even from the sky—
With ten hundred trillion times a hundred quadrillion—
In a land four yojanas wide, filled with many wonders—
Meanwhile, O Pārtha, the attendants of Skanda, enraged—
Then the earth goddess trembled, along with her forests and groves—
The world became shrouded in darkness, and the sky was filled with vultures—
O Pārtha, the mighty force led by Kālanemi was seen—
They charged in battle against the gods and the blessed Śaṅkara—
With mountains, with engines hurling a hundred missiles, and with iron clubs—
The demons slaughtered, as a forest is consumed by blazing fires—
Their bodies broken, their bones shattered, the dwellers of heaven fled—
Then, seeing that army in flight, Purandara—
Abandon fear, blessings to you! Heroes, take up your weapons—
This one, blazing like the fire of time, has approached the peacock—
Hearing Śakra’s words, the dwellers of heaven were reassured—
Kālanemi engaged in battle with Mahendra—
Kujambha, surrounded by such a division, with Viṣṇu—
The Sādhyas, together with the Vasus, fought back against the lord of the Daityas—
Suddenly abandoning his position, O Pārtha, he stood upon the head of Airāvata.
He struck Śakra as he roared, and both fell to the ground.
Once more, mounting his chariot, he advanced toward Tāraka.
The king is being seized, being seized—there is no one at all to save him.
With arrows, he struck Jambhaka and Gṛdhramodana along with their armies.
What use is this great Indra to you? Fight with me, O Dānava!
Who would fight with one who is naked, or with one who is exhausted, or with anyone else in such a state?
Consider something equal to yourself, O wicked-minded one.
Then the Kumāra, mounted on his peacock, rushed forward at once.
Then Hari said to Skanda, 'What is this to you, O Lord?'
