प्रच्युताः सहसा भांति दिवस्तारागणा इव २९.
They were scattered at once, shining like the stars in the daytime.
देवा वज्रधरं प्रोचुस्त्यज वज्रं शतक्रतो २९.
The gods said to the wielder of the thunderbolt, 'O Śatakratu, cast aside the thunderbolt!'
तद्विसृष्टं जघानाशु पार्श्व स्कंदस्य दक्षिणम् २९.
That which was released struck swiftly the right side of Skanda.
वज्रप्रहारात्स्कंदस्य संजातः पुरुषोऽपरः २९.
From the blow of the thunderbolt, another man was born from Skanda.
शाख इत्यभिविख्यातः सोपि व्यनददद्भुतम् २९.
He became known as Śākha, and he too uttered a wondrous cry.
तत्रापि तादृशो जज्ञे नैगमेय इति श्रुतः २९.
There also, one of similar nature was born, called Naigameya, as heard.
तदेंद्रो वज्रमुत्सृज्य प्रांजलिः शरणं ययौ २९.
Then Indra, abandoning the thunderbolt, approached with joined palms for refuge.
ततः प्रहृष्टास्त्रभिदशा वादित्राण्यभ्यवादयन् २९.
Then, delighted, the gods played instruments and sounded drums.
या हरं ति शिशूञ्जातान्गर्भस्थांश्चैव दारुणाः २९.
Those fierce mothers who had given birth to Hara and the infants still in the womb,
आया पलाला मित्रा च सप्तैताः शिशुमातरः २९.
Āyā, Palālā, Mitrā—these seven are the mothers of the child.
स्कंदप्रसादजः पुत्रो लोहिताक्षो भयंकरः २९.
Born from Skanda's favor, the son with red eyes, terrifying in appearance,
पूजनीयः सदा भक्त्या सर्वापस्मारशांतिदः २९.
He is always to be worshipped with devotion, the giver of peace from all epilepsy.
लोहितांबरसंवीतं त्रैलोक्यस्यापि सुप्रभम् २९.
Clad in red garments, radiant even among the three worlds,
श्रिया जुष्टं च तं प्राहुः सर्वे देवाः प्रणम्य वै २९.
Endowed with splendor, all the gods, bowing, declared him thus.
भवानिंद्रोऽस्तु नो नाथ त्रैलोक्यस्य हिताय वै॥ २९.
Let Bhavānīndra be our protector, for the welfare of the three worlds.
किमिंद्रः सर्वलोकानां करोतीह सुरोत्तमाः २९.
Kimiṃdra acts for all worlds, O best of gods.
इंद्रो दिशति भूतानां बलं तेजः प्रजाः सुखम् २९.
Indra grants strength, brilliance, offspring, and happiness to beings.
दुर्वृत्तानां स हरति वृत्तस्थानां प्रयच्छति २९.
He removes from the wicked, and bestows upon the righteous.
असूर्ये च भवेत्सूर्यस्तथाऽचंद्रे च चंद्रमाः २९.
Where there is no sun, he becomes the sun; likewise, where there is no moon, he becomes the moon.
एतदिंद्रेण कर्तव्यमिंद्रो हि विपुलं बलम् २९.
This must be done by Indra; for Indra possesses immense strength.
त्वं भवेंद्रो महाबाहो सर्वेषां नः सुखावहः २९.
You, O mighty-armed one, shall be Indra, bringing happiness to us all.
शाधि त्वमेव त्रैलोक्यं भवानिंद्रोस्तु सर्वदा २९.
You alone should rule the three worlds, always as the Indra of Bhavānī.
त्वमेव राजा भद्रं ते त्रैलोक्यस्य ममैव च २९.
You alone are king—may blessings be upon you—of the three worlds and mine as well.
यदि सत्यमिदं वाक्यं निश्चयाद्भाषितं त्वया अहमिंद्रो भविष्यामि तव वाक्याद्यशोऽस्तु ते॥ २९.
If these words spoken by you are truly certain, then I shall become Indra; by your statement, may you gain fame.
दानवानां विनाशाय देवानामर्थसिद्धये २९.
For the destruction of the Dānavas and the accomplishment of the gods' purpose.
इत्युक्ते सुमहानादः सुराणामभ्यजायत २९.
When this was spoken, a great sound arose among the gods.
जयेति तुष्टुवुश्चैनं वादित्राण्यभ्यवादयन् २९.
They praised him, crying 'Victory!' and played musical instruments.
तेन शब्देन महता विस्मिता नगनंदिनी २९.
By that great sound, Nandini of the mountains was astonished.
अद्य नुनं प्रहृष्टानां सुराणां विविधा गिरः २९.
Today, indeed, the various voices of the delighted gods are heard.
गवां च ब्राह्मणानां च साध्वीनां च दिवौकसाम् २९.
And also those of cows, Brahmins, virtuous women, and celestial beings.
