The god, seeing the goddess—daughter of the snowy mountain—standing shy,
There, Brahmā and the foremost sages beheld the goddess in her wondrous form.
Let us not be bewildered by Pārvatī, as Nārada and Parvata once were.
Then, praised by the gods and sages, the Supreme Lord—
The Creator, attended by those of triple form, approached with words from the Vedas.
At the offering of parched grain, Umā's brother, smiling, spoke to Hari.
'You must carefully protect these ornaments, O Hara,' he said.
Then Viṣṇu said, 'Ask for something; I will grant you a boon.'
Both gave to Brahmā the fee for the protection and creation of the world.
Then, having given to Bhṛgu and others the fee for the protection of the Vedas,
Through many great celebrations, wonder arose.
And Sarasvatī comforted the grieving parents of the goddess.
He went to Mount Mandara, accompanied by the mountain.
Then, when the Lord Nīlalohita had departed with Umā, the pure mountain became the support.
Whoever, being pure, hears and recites this marriage of the daughter of the Mountain King—
Then there appeared an incomparable, divine, auspicious palace made of all precious gems.
There, on Mount Mandara, the Lord, destroyer of Bhaga's eye, stayed with the Goddess.
Meanwhile, the gods were greatly afflicted by Tāraka.
Approaching Lord Bhava, they praised him in many ways with hymns.
Then, from the dirt of his body, he created Gajānana, the elephant-faced one.
The Goddess, with a delighted heart, said to him, 'Son!'
'This son is yours, O Girijā; listen to what he will be like.'
'As I am, so too will your son be, endowed with virtues.'
'He will cause obstacles that end in death for them.'
'Those who are obstructed by the Lord of Obstacles will attain the highest state.'
'By the obstacle of your son, their root will be destroyed.'
'He will create obstacles for those who are fierce and violent.'
'He will remove obstacles for those who are compassionate and free from anger.'
'Without worshipping him, O auspicious one, obstacles will surely arise.'
Then he became vast in form, his brilliance illuminating the directions; until the slayer of Tāraka is born, this Lord will remain.
